Winter White shared thisTHIS!!!!! THIS!!!! THIS!!!!Winter White shared thisHello everyone, I still see job opportunities for instructional designers with knowledge/experience of [insert an industry here]. It seems to me that the role of an instructional designer is not fully understood yet. The best instructional designer is the one who does not have experience in the subject matter. An instructional designer always works with a subject matter expert (SME). The expert provides the content, and the instructional designer works with that content to create a course structured following the natural learning flow. That course won't have gaps in the lessons, and will have foundational concepts; be engaging; be learner-centered; and address the learning objectives. The designer also creates evaluations that will measure not only the students' retention of the material but also the course's efficacy. Someone with prior knowledge of a given subject will rarely design a good course because they are naturally biased. They don't remember how it felt not knowing the subject, so they can rarely create well-designed learning material. In my opinion, the idea of hiring a hybrid professional who is, simultaneously, the designer and the SME is a BOGO that has slim chances of producing great learning material.

Winter White posted thisIs anyone in my network attending ATD 2026? I’d love to connect while we’re there. Whether it’s grabbing coffee, meeting up for lunch, or just saying a quick hello, I’d be happy to catch up in person. I’d also love to hear what sessions everyone is planning to attend. It could be a great opportunity to compare notes, see where there’s overlap, and maybe even divide and conquer across different topics and sessions. If you’ll be there, let me know. I’d love to connect!

Winter White reposted thisWinter White reposted thisMarried off at 12. No birth certificate. She doesn't know her own age. Best guess: somewhere in her mid-eighties. For most of her life, the world never noticed Margret Chola. Now the fashion world - and her 200,000 followers - can't stop looking. When her granddaughter Diana Kaumba, a New York City fashion stylist, came home to Lusaka, Zambia, she asked her a simple question: would she like to try some outfits on? Margret said yes. Then added something Diana would never forget: "One day I'll be gone. At least this way you'll have something beautiful to remember me by." The first look: a silver jumpsuit. Diana photographed her grandmother with the village scenery in the background. Posted it. Put her phone down. Came back ten minutes later to over a thousand likes. Now she’s in Harper's Bazaar. Glamour South Africa. On Good Morning America. She told the BBC: "These clothes make me feel new. Alive. Like I can conquer the world." A woman who grew up feeling neglected, never seen, who endured many hardships, became a global fashion icon. Not in spite of her story. Because of it. Here's what I think women like Margret would want every woman to hear: 💋 Wear the red. The dress. The lipstick. The nail polish. If they don’t like it, they'll get over it. 💋 Take up space. All of it. 💋 Don't worry about getting older. Worry about being boring. 💋 Take chances. If you never fail, you're playing it too safe. 💋 Take a stretch assignment. Then another. 💋 Travel. Expand your horizons. Meet people …don't just lay on the beach. 💋 Prioritize memories with loved ones over material possessions. Experiences compound. Things don't. 💋 Take lots of photos. You will celebrate them when the people you love are gone. 💋 Even if you are blessed with a loving partner and beautiful children, don't ever forget your girlfriends. They are essential. 💋 Never stop learning and growing …mentally, physically, spiritually. The day you stop is the day you start shrinking. Margret didn't plan to become an icon. She just said yes when someone asked her to show up. That's the whole lesson. Happy International Women's Day🌹

Winter White reacted on thisWinter White reacted on thisYesterday marked the end of my 24 year journey at Lakeshore Learning Materials. From being the HR receptionist to leading Organizational Change Management for the company, I couldn’t help but reminisce about every position, teammate, challenge, and triumph that defined the place where I’ve literally spent most of my life. The day was bittersweet (and I only broke a little when I handed in my laptop and badge at the end of the day), but I am SO excited for what’s ahead! I’m looking forward to being the new kid in town, and hopefully leaving heart prints at the next destination. To all of my fellow Lakeshore teammates and leaders, past and present: Thank you for the memories, opportunities, and most of all- your support. Onward and upward! New chapter loading….stay tuned! 🚀🙌

Winter White liked thisA true masterclass! 👏 It was a pleasure! Synchronverband Studio4 GmbH💫✍🎙️Winter White liked thisIt's hard for new dubbing scriptwriters to get qualified feedback. That's why I developed a masterclass format for Synchronverband that allows authors to get constructive feedback on their script, and to see how their text fares in a dubbing studio outside of the hectic everyday environment. What happens if you forget to notate a pause? What is it like to see a dubbing actor literally breathe life into a text that you've only had in your head? Why do they struggle with a text that you thought was brilliant? For the Masterclass Munich, four dubbing scriptwriters each wrote a quarter of a film, and then spent four days during a major heatwave in the studio where we turned the spotlight onto practically every sentence, watching the director, the dubbing assistant, and the sound engineer working with the actors, and asking themselves and each other, why one thing works and another thing doesn't. Big thanks to Synchronverband, Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios, and Studio4 GmbH for the film, the studio, the people, and the ice pop! Security reasons don't allow me to show us at work, so here we are at lunch. Thank you, Munich.

Winter White reacted on thisWinter White reacted on thisMost executives investing heavily in AI are betting their company's future on a technology they barely understand, on top of culture they understand even less. And it's going to cost them more than they can possibly imagine. That's not hype. It's not even a guess. It's #facts. The most recent HBR has 2 culture articles one about alignment and one about decision rights. MIT has been saying, since last year, that EPOCH skills (Empathy, Presence, Opinion/Judgment, Creativity, and Hope) can't be replaced by AI. We also know that these skills are differentiators for innovation, competitive advantage and a healthy workplace. Yet, so many folks are out here creating environments guaranteed to squash those because they're culture has calcified into an inhumane straight-jacket - limiting the potential of the people while betting on a technology that can't function without... well, people. Last week, Jenny and I had the privilege of speaking at GOTO Conferences - Accelerate Chicago about this very topic with folks whose everyday is directly impacted by this cart before the pegasus moment we're in. The talk will be published soon, and we'll post when it is - but for now, enjoy some candid shots. Yes. Jenny's shirt says "Do the work." Because, c'mon now. But also, what is my face doing in that other pic? Looking to unpack what's happening with your team's culture in the wake of all that is AI? We've gotchu. Please reach out. We're here to help.

Winter White reacted on thisWinter White reacted on thisThe HIGHLIGHT of my year! ✨ I spent the past week on the University of Puget Sound campus serving as a Company Advisor for Washington Business Week. Throughout the week, high school students from across Washington and beyond worked in teams to run a simulated business, make real-world business decisions, and develop a new product to pitch to investors. More importantly, they built leadership skills, learned how to navigate challenges, and discovered what they’re capable of when they work together. Participating in Washington Business Week as a high school junior helped shape my own leadership journey, so returning as a volunteer felt like a true full-circle moment. I couldn't be prouder of my team. They worked through challenges, navigated team dynamics, supported one another, and grew tremendously in confidence and leadership over the course of just ONE week. It’s truly mind-blowing. I'm also incredibly grateful to my manager, Lisa Sall, for supporting me, covering my workload while I was away, and making this opportunity possible. A HUGE thank you as well to the entire WBW team (Kathryn Nicoară, Brandon Mullins, Nick Quinlan, just to name a few) and my fellow Company Advisors for creating such an impactful experience. If you're interested in supporting the next generation of leaders, I highly encourage getting involved with Washington Business Week. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gwv4Ahi2 For my Harbor connections, Tammy Lund is currently looking for Company Advisor volunteers for Hoquiam High School Business Week this November. If you'd like to learn more, send me a message and I'd be happy to connect you. You won’t regret it!

Welcome to Black History Repeats Itself Month. As a psychologist, I avoid thinking I can read minds. But it is difficult to guess why this company so blatantly treated lower level employees who are mostly black so unfairly and illegally. I am certain that they have a justification but not considering the impact on the employees, the company and themselves is unfathomable. “Much of the complaint against StoneMor centered on three Black groundskeeping employees who constituted the nonmanagerial staff at the Memphis-area facility. StoneMor restricted access to the preferred restroom and break room with a combination code lock, according to EEOC, and this restriction applied both to the groundskeeping plaintiffs as well as to Black employees in client-facing or professional positions.” “At the same time, members of the facility’s executive management, all of whom were White, and professional-level White employees were granted access to the preferred restroom and break room, per the complaint. The three employees repeatedly complained about the restrictions as well as the conditions of the alternate break room StoneMor [finally] gave them access to.” https://lnkd.in/g_6zPjRf
