They always ensure characters and environments connect, whether they're leaning, crashing, or just breathing. Vivian Leung shared thisI had a blast working on Flamenco these past few months and I'm happy to say that the project was a success. I was able to ship out several features (settings page, multi-selection, mass job selection), several bug fixes, and documentation on the project website! Thanks again to GSoC admins, my mentor Sybren A. Stüvel, and to Sunanda Kommula for letting me know about this program (: I plan to continue contributing for Flamenco when possible and may look into tinkering with other open source projects too. Vivian Leung shared thisCongratulations to everyone that was accepted into Google Summer of Code 2025! I will be working with the Blender Foundation to make improvements to Flamenco, their open-source render farm web application, with mentorship from Sybren A. Stüvel :) For those that are unfamiliar, a render farm uses a network of several computers and is powerful because it divides the work efficiently to process batches of render jobs. It is an essential tool for production in animation studios. The web app makes it easy to manage all render jobs and worker computers in one place. Huge thanks to Sunanda Kommula for introducing me to this program, and for the encouragement and moral support <3

I started as an online volunteer, moved to Amsterdam when I joined an open movie project, developed web applications and tools, produced short films, organized conferences and events, and spent years shadowing and supporting Ton during the incredible growth Blender has experienced since 2018. Long story short, today I'm becoming CEO at Blender. I'm very grateful to Ton and the team for their trust, and I look forward to continuing to pursue Blender's mission together with Fiona Cohen, Dalai Felinto, and Sergey (the Foundation board), the team, and the entire community. I'll be at CES in a few days, happy to meet up there, or in LA/San Francisco the following week! #b3d

During my time at Michigan, I worked on several projects focused on embedded systems and digital signal processing. I was involved with the University of Michigan Solar Car Team and served as the Engineering Director. I also completed engineering internships at Intel Corporation, Synaptics Incorporated, and SpaceX working on low voltage circuit design, control systems design, and semiconductor manufacturing and testing. I'm excited to start my career as an Avionics Engineer at SpaceX in Hawthorne, CA!

And to this day, that "Angular - The Complete Guide" course (which - like many other courses - got updated many, many times by me) is one of my bestselling courses. I can't tell what this acquisition by Coursera means for my future as a Udemy instructor. Time will tell. I will definitely keep on teaching - on one platform or another. But learning that a brand that was THE main part of my professional life for the last 10 years will go away is really very, very sad.

Vivian Leung liked thisVivian Leung liked this⚠️A Japanese game studio has changed its hiring process after noticing a rise in applicants submitting portfolios that looked produced by AI. The studio now asks candidates to draw during the interview so the team can see their real ability and confirm that the work shown in their portfolio is actually theirs. The chief graphic designer at the company said that many portfolios look polished at first, yet some fall apart when the applicant is asked to create something on the spot. He explained that the goal is not to pressure people but to protect the craft inside the studio. In his words, humans are the ones who create characters and visual ideas from scratch, and the team wants to work with people who can do that in a reliable way. Vivian Leung liked thisVivian Leung liked thisExperiment with colors III The Science of Light: From RGB to White and Back When a beam of white light, composed of three converging monochromatic sources—red, green, and blue—passes through a slit, it is decomposed into its constituent colors. This results in three distinct vertical bands—red, green, and blue—which are projected onto a screen. If an obstacle, such as a vertical wooden rod, is placed before the slit, it partially blocks some of the light components. As a result, three vertical stripes—cyan, magenta, and yellow—appear at the location of the slit. These colors are the complements of the original light sources and emerge through subtractive color mixing: • Cyan appears where red is blocked. • Magenta appears where green is blocked. • Yellow appears where blue is blocked. By moving the rod, one can control which complementary color passes through the slit. This complementary color then cancels out its corresponding primary color behind the slit. Vivian Leung liked thisVivian Leung liked thisRecently, I built a shader that moves mesh vertices along a sine wave, and I got a little obsessed with it. 😅 I ended up creating a few simple Unity scenes to showcase all the different types of objects we can animate using the same effect. It’s amazing how much life you can add with just a vertex shader. The coolest thing about it is how incredibly lightweight it is. It’s a super cost-effective way to animate objects without the overhead of skinning or breaking batches. What do you think?
