Viraat D. shared thisHello! We are building a proactive agent that watches your logs, traces, deploys, and GitHub activity, then tells you what broke, which deploy likely caused it, who is affected, and opens the fix PR when the issue is code-fixable. It's called Libra! Here is a demonstration of my favorite feature that we have shipped so far (It's called PR Intents). If your oncall load is heavy and you want to know what good sleep feels like, reach out to me or check us out at https://exla.ai/

Viraat D. posted thisYou'll often find that big companies suffer from bugs that would be solved in a day at a startup. As we were building Libra, I kept on thinking how nice this would've been to have when I was at Amazon. I have discussed this with my friends and managers still at Amazon - and came to the conclusion that this would likely save them something in the order of tens of millions per organization. But, at the same time, getting a hold of the procurement team at Amazon and selling is a long and tedious process. Managers fret engaging them and building internally seems easier if they can. I wish my friends going through the 3AM page headaches and the sleepless nights could have Libra because I know it would've really saved me a few gray hairs when I used to work there. As a startup though you have to build for customers that will buy and immediately validate the product. So I'm building it for someone else first, and hoping it finds its way back to them eventually.

Viraat D. shared thisTomorrow will be an exciting day for Exla! We are doing a launch starting with the internal YC community (it's called Bookface). We have been working hard on something we are calling Libra that helps you find and debug bugs before it catches on fire. We'd love to talk to you if your oncall is suffering!

Viraat D. reposted thisViraat D. reposted thisCedar has raised $3M to build the AI-native workspace for Account Executives. Used by AE’s at top companies like Cursor, Warp, and Listen Labs, today they're launching it to the public. Cedar connects to all your sales data and maps out your customized playbook - what research to run before a meeting, the content of a valuable follow-up, and the multi-threading strategy for your ICP. Cedar then creates agents that proactively help your reps adhere to the winning playbook. AE's using Cedar respond 2x faster, cut follow-up times from 14 to 5 days, follow up with custom collateral, and create custom agents to improve conversion rates. See how Cedar helps top GTM teams, and book a demo now at mail.cedarcopilot.com. Congrats on the round, Jesse Li and Isabelle Ilyia! https://lnkd.in/ga3YJpY4

Viraat D. posted thisTo my old friends at Amazon who were impacted by layoffs (or not and just want a change), feel free to reach out if I can be helpful in your job search - especially if looking for opportunities at fast-growing, exciting startups in the Bay Area. Many close colleagues that I have worked with for years have been impacted, and it's so sad to see big upheaval happen so suddenly.

Viraat D. shared thisIntroducing OpenPIE-0.6: The first open source RL-trained VLA that exceeds Physical Intelligence's π*0.6 results (even though it's smaller!) VLAs are the future of general robotics. While incremental hardware improvements are important, we believe building exceptional intelligence will force the industry to move faster and accelerate general adoption. We're releasing everything: - Full model weights - Training code - Evaluation benchmarks - Real-world results on complex manipulation Tasks it handles: - Folding diverse laundry - Making espresso drinks - Assembling boxes - And more This is Exla's first step toward general robotics, and we're extremely excited to see what the community builds with this https://lnkd.in/dqhyka7Q

Viraat D. shared thisCome talk to us* if you want to have optimized and fast models! Start saving on your infra immediately if you are doing on-prem deployment or be surprised as to the kinds of models you are able to run now on your edge devices now! *email: viraat@exla.aiViraat D. shared thisExla (YC W25) makes AI models smaller and faster for edge devices by aggressively quantizing them. With Exla, models use up to 80% less memory and run 3x–20x faster — all with just a few lines of code. AI is moving to the edge, but most models are too large and slow for devices like Jetsons, Raspberry Pis, and other embedded systems. Developers struggle to deploy high-performance AI in resource-constrained environments without sacrificing accuracy or efficiency. Exla solves this by automating model optimization. It takes in LLMs, VLMs, VLAs and custom models, applies advanced quantization techniques based on your hardware constraints, and delivers an optimized version that runs efficiently on edge hardware. Whether you're building AI for drones, robotics, or smart cameras, Exla makes deployment seamless. Congrats on the launch, Viraat D. and Pranav N.! 🚀 https://lnkd.in/dpAQbpxc

Viraat D. reacted on thisSo grateful and excited to be supported by and learn from such a great team!Viraat D. reacted on thisTEAM NEWS: We’re excited to welcome Henry Cerbone as a PhD Fellow at Contrarian Ventures. 🎉 Henry is currently a PhD student at the University of Oxford, where he studies biological perception and decision-making across the Oxford Flight Group, Oxford Botanic Garden, and Dynamic Robot Systems Group. His research spans a remarkable set of systems, from Harris’s hawks and waterlilies to Picasso triggerfish and other organisms that rely on light to move and decide. At its core, his work explores embodiment: how physical form shapes perception and behaviour. It combines animal and plant experiments, modelling and simulation, and the development of 3D computer vision methods. Henry holds an undergraduate degree in robotics, philosophy, and biology, as well as a master’s in computer science, both from Harvard University. As physical AI, robotics, and bio-inspired systems move from research labs into real companies, Henry’s perspective will be a real asset to our investment team as we evaluate new deals and emerging technologies. Happy to have you on board, Henry! 🤝

Viraat D. reacted on thisViraat D. reacted on thisI’m excited to share that I’m stepping into a new role at OpenAI as VP, Compute Strategy & GPT-Infra. I am excited to drive the commercial strategy and execution for compute at OpenAI: expanding our access to capacity, bringing it online faster, improving the economics of what we deploy, and maximizing the ROI of these investments. I’ll also be leading our GPT-Infra product efforts, applying OpenAI’s AI to hard problems across the AI infrastructure ecosystem, from semiconductors and systems to clouds. There’s a powerful recursive opportunity here: using the AI we’re building to help design, optimize, and scale the next generation of infrastructure that future AI systems will depend on, both for OpenAI and for the broader ecosystem across semiconductors, systems, and clouds. I’m grateful to Greg and the OpenAI leadership team for the trust, and to the many teammates and partners whose work makes this possible. The next era of AI will depend on infrastructure built with the same ambition and rigor as the models themselves. I’m excited to help make that happen.

Viraat D. reacted on thisViraat D. reacted on thisToday, we're officially launching our Y Combinator deal. Founders building in the age of AI are moving at insane velocity. Products are evolving faster than ever before, but communicating what you've shipped to the world still lags behind. Distribution becomes the bottleneck and creates an ever-growing content backlog. That's why we're introducing our YC Deal for all YC founders who want to ship content at the same speed that they're shipping features. If you're a YC founder, redeem our deal on BookFace to get a monthly or annual Motion Pro or Motion Max plan for a 50% discount on any subscription for 6 months. Make Motion your 24/7 marketing agent and never miss an opportunity to launch again.

Viraat D. reacted on thisViraat D. reacted on thisI wanted to invite everyone who is interested to attend my PhD defense on Tuesday, July 21st at 11:00 AM EDT, virtual attendance is welcome. In the talk, I will be sharing some of my graduate work on hydrated polymer-ceramic composites. These types of materials are all around us and are critical to the buildings that we inhabit and even the bones in our body. Often times, tiny structures and interactions between organic and inorganic phases control the large scale behavior of the material. In my work I used a variety of tools to study these interactions and describe how we can control them produce superior composite materials.

Viraat D. reacted on thisViraat D. reacted on thisWe got a blimp that says "Zendesk Killer". This is goodbye to this tagline, because on Wednesday we're evolving. We first started saying "Zendesk Killer" in 2023, and it came about by accident. Our first product had been an integration 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 Zendesk. When we eventually turned into a support platform, people still thought we were just an integration. The easiest way to fix this was compare ourselves 1:1 with another product that was already the same category of "thing" as we were (a support platform). So we positioned against Zendesk directly by saying we were "building the next Zendesk". This tagline worked, and people easily understood in 5 words what we were doing. As we got better at content, it felt like "Building the next Zendesk" wasn't catchy enough. So we eventually changed it to "Zendesk Killer". People LOVED Zendesk Killer. So we leaned into it heavily and although it wasn't the perfect tagline (didn't reference our B2B focus at all) it worked extremely well. But we've outgrown it. Before, it was novel to say Zendesk wasn't moving quickly anymore and that it wasn't the right vendor to bet on long-term. But now... everyone knows Zendesk is the past. Saying it isn't original anymore, and frankly, associating with them hurts our brand more than it helps. So with that in mind, this is the last time you'll see Zendesk Killer from Pylon and on Wednesday we'll unveil what comes next. Out of all the evolutions in customer support software over the years from custom built → software → SaaS → omnichannel → verticalized → deflection agents → ???, we're excited to share our vision for the future. -- Notes -- - A core reason this tagline worked was because people were already frustrated with Zendesk and starting to think about alternatives. We couldn't have done this with a product people already liked. - Why waste money on the blimp with old branding? Well... we had already paid for it and it was too late to switch to the new messaging / branding coming this week. - Want to see the blimp? It's flying around the coast of SF for the next 5 days from Chase Stadium to Golden Gate Bridge.

Nvidia's new open-weight model, Nemotron-3-Nano, takes the medal for most transparent model from a commercial company this year. Scoring a 78% score on Trustible's Model Ratings, it ties with Olmo-2 and really shines when it comes to Data Transparency. Highlights: 📕 Nearly Open-Data: Nemo is trained almost entirely on open-data. The developers go a step further and document WHEN each external dataset was documented which can be important for reproducibility, if data changes over time. However, the documentation lists out several private datasets - so it isn't 100% open-source ⚒️ Training Details: The Technical Report explains the training process with detailed hyper-parameters, improving the accessibility for other developers who want to build similar systems 🤩 Public Evaluation Code: For the evaluations that were performed, Nvidia links to public code - this is an increasingly rare practice. Even open-weight Llama-3 did not document how they calculated their benchmark scores. Lowlights: 📉 Data vs Evaluation trade-off: Similar to other models with high data transparency, Nemo lags on evaluations. They perform no evaluations of limitations or adversarial testing. While our ratings don't require extensive red-teaming, we expect a discussion of this topic to help the end-user make informed decisions. 🔎 Documentation Organization: This rating took us a while to create, because several important details were not front and center. While I liked the detailed list of datasets, Ethics and Privacy details should be highlighted earlier in the documents. Using a Model Cards type format would have raised the Documentation Support rating from Medium to High. Detailed Rating: https://lnkd.in/e6MVXzfv

The paper introduces RefVFX, a novel framework for transferring complex temporal visual effects from one video (the reference) to another video or image (the target) without requiring manual tuning or prompt engineering. Current video editing and effect transfer methods typically rely on prompts or keyframes to control edits, but these approaches struggle with dynamic, evolving effects such as changing lighting, character transformations, or motion-dependent appearances. RefVFX addresses this by learning effect transfer in a feed-forward fashion: given a reference effect video and a target, it synthesizes an output video where the effect’s temporal dynamics are applied while preserving the target’s original motion and structure. To support this, the authors create a large-scale dataset of triplets—reference effect videos, input videos/images, and corresponding ground-truth outputs showing the transferred effect. Because such triplets don’t naturally occur, the paper proposes a scalable automated pipeline to generate high-quality paired videos, augmenting them with synthetic effects from LoRA adapters and programmatic temporal changes. Using this dataset, RefVFX is trained on modern text-to-video backbone architectures to learn reference-conditioned effect transfer. Extensive experiments demonstrate that RefVFX achieves temporally coherent, visually consistent edits, generalizes to unseen effect categories, and outperforms prompt-only baselines in both quantitative metrics and human preference evaluations. The framework enables practical, tuning-free video effect transfer that works across videos and images, broadening the capabilities of content editing and visual effect synthesis. https://lnkd.in/gu9ZtRK4
