This paper examines the transformation of ontological identity under conditions of late modernity and advanced capitalism. I argue that ontological identity undergoes a systematic restructuring through processes of self-commodification-extending beyond the concept of alienation-and through mechanisms of one-dimensional thought as articulated by Marcuse. The theoretical framework integrates perspectives from the Frankfurt School with contemporary analyses of reflexive modernity, resonance theory, and psychopolitics of neoliberal subjectivity. This transformation of identity represents not merely an extension of capitalist relations but rather constitutes a significant reconfiguration of subjectivity itself, whereby the 'Imaged Identity' displaces authentic ontological self-understanding. A thorough deconstruction of mechanizations of consumption, over-simplification of production of lifestyles as well as the commodification of non-economic entities to then conclude that each of these play a primordial role in the recent reshaping of capitalism into its newest form.

The following paper is an in-depth analysis about the ontological identity of individuals and how the former has been permeated by certain aspects of Consumerism and Capitalism. The permeation of the ontological identity is analyzed through notions such as self-commodification, stemming from Karl Marx’s concept of alienation, as well as processes such as one-dimensional thought and self-validating realities, based on Herbert Marcuse’s theories on post capitalism.
