It’s helping predict maintenance needs, improve operational decisions, reduce downtime, and support crews with better information at the right time. What gives me confidence is the direction the industry is taking. The conversation centers on supporting pilots, engineers, and operations teams rather than replacing them. Aviation has always been built on disciplined decision-making, and AI has the potential to strengthen that foundation when paired with human judgment. From my perspective, the future of aviation becomes stronger when technology enhances expertise while people continue carrying the responsibility for every flight.

Ted Van Zwol liked thisToday we're launching vaelth on Product Hunt. 🚀 vaelth is a local development proxy for macOS. Give any local service a real hostname — app.vaelth — with automatic HTTPS and a built-in process supervisor that keeps it running. One binary. No more localhost:3000, no more port collisions, no more "wait, which tab was my API?" But here's why we built it at Vela: We build AI agents. Our engineers — and our agents — spin up dozens of local services a day. Every local-dev tool we reached for was built for a human clicking around a GUI. Your AI assistant had no idea what was running, where it lived, or how to reach it. So vaelth ships an MCP server. Claude, Cursor, Codex, and friends can list, add, route, and inspect your local hosts directly — the exact same hosts you see. In fact, everything vaelth does is reachable four ways, symmetrically: a CLI, a management portal, a JSON API, and MCP. Whoever's driving — you or an agent — sees the same world. It also does the things you'd want from a serious local proxy: per-host HTTPS with a local CA, request/response capture and replay, upstream reachability at a glance, LAN sharing over .local, basic auth, and custom headers. In the future, we will be adding integrated tunnelling support through Cloudflare, Tailscale, Azure, and more, because we believe secure tunnels are best left to those who tunnel for a living. Ted Van Zwol liked thisTed Van Zwol liked thisTomorrow I have the opportunity to attend a leadership training, and it has me reflecting on the research I conducted during my doctoral studies. One of the strongest findings from my research is that trust is not simply a byproduct of effective leadership. It is a deliberate practice that shapes relationships, organizational culture, and long-term success. Leaders who intentionally build trust create the conditions for people and organizations to thrive. I'm looking forward to exploring new perspectives and reflecting on how they connect with what the research continues to teach us about leadership and trust. Ted Van Zwol liked thisTed Van Zwol liked thisAt the conclusion of my three-month sabbatical, gratitude is the overarching emotion I’m experiencing right now. My gratitude starts with the Lord. During the sabbatical, I came to have a new appreciation for the kindness, gentleness, and grace that He has shown me. I’m so grateful to our MAF board who generously provided this time to Natalie and me. I’m grateful to my executive leadership team for their faithful and competent leadership during my absence. I’m also grateful to the individuals—the family and friends—who blessed us in some very life-giving ways during our time away. Lastly, I’m grateful to be a part of MAF. We are living in a world that is experiencing growing levels of isolation and polarization. At this time in history, to be part of a Christ-centered, gospel-proclaiming ministry that connects people to the most important things they need is an amazing blessing to me.

Ted Van Zwol liked thisTed Van Zwol liked thisLike many of my friends and former colleagues, I chose to accept Microsoft's voluntary retirement package. My last day as a Microsoft employee was July 1. It was a great 23-year (and then some) run. Not quite long enough to get my name added to the Wall of Fame, but certainly longer than I expected when I first walked through the doors of Building 41. For those of you (us?) who have received what feels like a never-ending stream of "I took the VRP retirement offer" notifications on LinkedIn over the past few weeks, I apologize in advance for not offering a unique "what I'll miss most" insight. Without question, it's the people—the extraordinary colleagues I've had the good fortune to work with and learn from.
