SDRs should master 3 areas of business. In no particular order: 1. cold calls 2. results of product 3. prospecting Seem obvious, but some SDRs: - forget - get too busy - spray and pray Every SDR manager will tell you: Structure Your Day Example: 1. 9-10am: Call Block 2. 10-11am: Prospect/LinkedIn Outreach 3. 11-12pm: Email Blast 4. 12-1pm: Lunch 5. 1-3pm: Hot Account Research + Call Block 6. 3-5pm: Daily Wrap Up/Final Follow Ups/Final Call Block/Product Trainings This might look different for each SDR. HOT TAKE: Most SDR cold call advice is wrong. Some “gurus” say a cold call should be under 4 or 5 minutes. Get in. Pitch. Book the meeting. Get out. Sounds great on LinkedIn. But over the last year, some of my best cold calls have gone 10 to 15 minutes and those are the ones that turned into real opportunities and ideally… closed won. Why? Because the prospect was talking. And when people talk, you learn things. You hear the pain. You hear the frustration. You hear what they’ve tried. You hear how they buy. You hear who else is involved. You hear the truth. That is called discovery. So no, I don’t agree that every cold call needs to be rushed just to fit some made-up best practice. Yes, sometimes a quick call is perfect. But if someone is engaged, opening up, and clearly interested, why would I cut that short just so I can say “Yep booked that one in 4 minutes.” That’s not efficiency. That’s leaving value on the table. My take? A cold call should not be judged by how fast you book the meeting. It should be judged by the quality of the conversation and whether it actually turns into pipeline. So to anyone preaching 4 minute or 5 minute cold calls only let’s talk. Show me your data. 📢 Stop holding your sales team back. Give reps real focus. If they are outbound, protect their calendar. No random projects. No endless meetings. Get them in front of buyers. Events, field days, customer visits, meetups. Your competitors are out there shaking hands. If your reps are stuck at a desk, they will take your customers. ➡️ Support them.
