Chris Stovall liked thisChris Stovall liked thisWrapping up our annual “DC Fly In” with CGA/DPAC. We had over 40 meetings with Congress over the past two days. I am encouraged that the Senate has passed the PIPES Act with Damage Prevention language to help guide state dig laws. This includes limiting the scope of a ticket, requiring white lining, and providing a separate process and timeline for utility projects. Now, the House must pick up the language in the Energy and Commerce Committee. The House already passed out of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. We had great conversations around the support to pass this…finally, after three years of work. The work we do matters and I appreciate the opportunity to represent USIC in our Nation’s Capitol this week.

Chris Stovall liked thisChris Stovall liked thisThe MISS DIG 811 team was visited today by State Representative Angela Witwer to officially receive the Governors Proclamation in recognition of Safe Digging Month in Michigan. The team was able to demonstrate the coordination of 208,000 active underground excavation sites across Michigan using our GIS platform, and talk about national best practices. While we are in the middle of the busiest spring ever on record, we are focused on safety, coordination, and preventing damages to underground infrastructure. The team at MISS DIG 811 presented in three separate sessions surrounding GIS technology, collaboration, and large project utility coordination. Thank you to Bill Turner, Chris Stovall, Ryan White, and Ryan Casey for the great panel on AI use cases within the 811 process. With all time high infrastructure investment in many states across the country, it is great to see the focus on the visualization and coordination of safe excavation practices through the 811 systems. With approximately 220,000 active tickets right now is Michigan, the team is coordinating everyday to keep Michigan safe. Roni A. One call systems process approximately 25 million underground utility locate requests each year in the United States, making them the first step in the damage prevention process. These organizations are much more than ticket processing centers; their staffs create and execute training and educational programs and implement new technologies that make the one call process more efficient for all stakeholders. One call systems’ staffs provide a key link between national and local damage prevention efforts, which expands the reach of CGA and its programs. Organized as the One Call Systems International (OCSI) Committee in CGA, OCSI offers a forum for one call system employees and board members to discuss trends from the other CGA committees on a local level. OCSI began as an independent organization in 1985, and elected to join CGA as a committee in 2003.
