Steven Baker shared thisAtlassian + Williams Racing event yesterday here in Austin at the Atlassian office. This was fun. All related to race week with the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. ☑️ Nerdy tech from a company I respect ... ☑️ In the context of F1 racing from a team I support ... ☑️ Here in Austin. Hell yeah. Really interesting talks about the entire Atlassian suite, but particularly how Rovo (their AI engine) is at the center of all of it now. As an Atlassian customer, you see bits and pieces of Rovo sneaking into the UI ("Chat with Rovo" buttons here and there). But the stuff that's coming is awesome. An upcoming desktop + mobile app to let you chat with your data got my brain percolating. Imagining our Greenfly sales and customer support folks being able to pop open the Rovo app one day soon to ask: * Does our product support <some feature>? * Is <that other feature> on the product roadmap? * What was in last week's release? * What's our playbook for handling <customer type>? ... And then getting correct answers back from Rovo in seconds. Instead of having to pop into Slack and wait for folks on the product/tech teams to respond minutes or hours later. Anyway, not an ad for Atlassian here ... just cool to see tech used in interesting ways. The macro takeaway for me was that it is so obvious now that the core responsibility of every team at a company is to do their work in a way that generates a pool of structured data for other teams to pull from via LLM. Good stuff. Props to both Atlassian + Williams for a great event and an exciting collab. And yeah, putting a chassis in the lobby was an awesome flex. Love it.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 -> 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 -> 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀, 𝗲𝗻𝗱-𝘁𝗼-𝗲𝗻𝗱, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁? Imagine - it's November 2025. You have an idea for a software app, but you're not sure if it'll connect or get traction. At 𝟴:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺, you go into an AI tool and write down everything you can about your idea is and a set of goals. (Signups, engagement, etc.) An agent kicks off implementation of V1, deploys it automatically, then lets user data stream back in for an hour or so. An LLM reads that stream of data (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.) and then 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙬𝙣 what the next set of features should be. 👀 At 𝟵:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺, V2 is designed, developed, and deployed autonomously ... At 𝟭𝟬:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺, V3 goes live ... At 𝟭𝟭:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺, V4 goes live ... Wash rinse repeat. You went to bed with a basic prompt and a napkin drawing of a signup page. You wake up and you've got a SaaS app taking Stripe payments. Your packages and pricing page (Bronze / Silver / Gold!) was automatically designed and refined thanks to a key insight that came after that V5 launch in the middle of the night and boosted conversions, all while you slept. 😄 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱? Once brute force technical ability becomes commoditized, it seems like everything collapses super quickly. "Full stack" no longer means frontend + backend + ops. That all collapses to just ... an implementation detail, done primarily by AI. Touching code becomes like 20% of your time. In that new world, what do you do with that other 80%? Meeting people, networking, community building, getting new ideas, story telling. Refining your taste - since that will become the scarce resource. Figuring out what the next waypoint is - so that you know what to feed into the autopilot. That's five separate people at a company now, but in the future, that's one person. That's the new "full stack". Maybe it'll even include helping me draw better LinkedIn graphics. 🤣 But seriously, this feels inevitable, and I'm fascinated to figure out how to play this.

If not, fight me in the comments. 😄 📚 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶 𝟮.𝟱 𝗣𝗿𝗼 - initial codebase analysis (e.g. "explain this project in plain English") 📄 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝟯.𝟱 - single-file tasks (elegant responses, but not as great for agent mode) 🤖 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝟯.𝟳 - agentic refactoring superstar (but has a tendency to overcomplicate simple tasks, though, so heads up) 🎯 𝗚𝗣𝗧-𝟰.𝟭 - great at precise updates (where you can prompt 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 what you need it to do) ⚡ 𝗼𝟰-𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶 - good for lightning fast iteration on small fixes (like test failures) o3 is super promising, but TBD. Haven’t personally used it much for dev yet. What a time to be alive.

Steven Baker shared thisI got a few folks in my network working at Roblox. To all of you there — thank you. Our 11-year-old son is over here vibe coding experiences in Roblox Studio. He hit a bug in a script, so I showed him how to set breakpoints, how to read call stacks, and even how to prompt the coding assistant to get better output. 😛 Man. As a kid, I spent way too many nights and weekends coding up computer games in BASIC because it was the only way to even *have* a computer game to play. App Store?! In 1986?! That woulda been nice. Kids nowadays obviously live in a world where new games are a tap or two away. Because of that, it’s HARD as a parent to convince them that *consuming things* isn’t as rewarding as *creating things*. “Yeah, ok, Dad.” 😄 But when you see kids start to find that out for themselves, it’s just AWESOME. I can hear him right now getting frustrated with code that isn’t working. That’s part of it, too. Welcome to the club, son. 😆 Can’t stop smiling.

Steven Baker reacted on thisSteven Baker reacted on thisAnother viral ‘how it’s made’ video, this time from the NBA The NBA showed the Finals court getting put together for game and it has well over 15M views across platforms and they took a somewhat different approach than the Anaheim Ducks I posted here last week (with over 20M views) ➡️ The reason the hockey one took off was mostly the ‘whoa’ realization that the special logos on the ice were stickers and not painted on ➡️ The NBA emphasized sound design in their presentation, characterizing it as ‘ASMR’ but, notably, only using that language on TikTok (but the same video) ➡️ They also shared a split screen player reaction video, with Julian Champagnie expressing surprise that the logos were not stickers (maybe he saw the viral Ducks video! haha) A few other things worth taking away: 🏀 Every team can crush content like this with its audience. Imitate and riff on it 🏀 This content is evergreen (maybe not the specific Finals logos and prep) but the general how it’s made content and if something goes viral today, share it again next month, a few months after that, and next year 🏀 Consider how that content can be extended: The NBA’s ASMR treatment with the sound production is a nice touch, player reactions to how it’s made, interviews with a facility operations lead for more info (even an AMA or responding to questions in the comments) 🏀 Plan and package for sponsorships to sell (next season or even after the fact for reposting/repackaging these videos; see bullet above, even if the same performance can't be guaranteed the next time around) 🏀 The NBA did a nice job using the collab feature to loop in partners (ESPN) and to help drive their affiliated Larry O’Brien trophy account 🏀 Consider how you can use content like this outside of social — it can add some solid value to email and SMS, among other O&O platforms, and reach fans who aren’t scrolling the social feeds daily 🏀 As teams build up more of this content, there’s also the opportunity to package compilations, playlists, or series. The type of user experience where one can stick it on their living room TV and kick back 🏀 Get the social person involved as a character. Feature them as an avatar for fans viewing, taking it in, explaining how things look, feel, weigh, etc. With all the NBA content flooding the zone these past few days especially, and it was this video that kept finding my feed!

I thought this was a good and very reasonable talk by Eleanor Millman on how to prioritize projects for a platform engineering team: https://lnkd.in/gaYtUHRH A few insights I took from it: - Unlike product features which can be more directly tied to revenue, platform engineering work is a couple steps removed. But that doesn't mean it's unimportant! Far from it, platform engineering projects can make everyone at the company more efficient, able to produce higher quality software, etc. - While "urgency" is always going to be a factor, you don't want to just be putting out fires, you want be able to prioritize work which is "high impact" ... even if that impact isn't felt immediately. - Good rule of thumb: prioritize "highest impact for lowest effort". - The talk has some ideas on what factors to choose for impact, and how to blend them. For instance "speed of development" is one factor, "cloud cost optimization" might be another. The weighting of different impact factors can change over time, depending on the needs of the business. I would say that a lot of companies don't have much methodology here but I can really see the value in codifying it. You can always change the methodology or the weighting if it's spitting out results that don't pass the smell test or you really feel it is leading the company astray. Clarity can give the org more freedom to put resources behind projects that would otherwise never be taken on. When things are unclear, prioritization still happens implicitly, but the decisions tend to be a lot more random and fear-based and the org is worse off as a result.
