Stephen King liked thisStephen King liked thisA large chemical plant launched a criticality analysis for every piece of equipment on site. It was a major initiative; time-consuming, resource-intensive, and billed as the year’s top priority. The equipment list was exported from the CMMS into a spreadsheet and the criticality ratings would be calculated automatically. The leadership team made sure every seat was filled. We had the right people and the right tools. We even had a catered fish dinner to kick off the project. Goals and bonuses were tied to it. Over the years it turned into a slow-motion crash. Meetings got smaller. Discussions lost energy. By the end of the year, the work had essentially stopped. Two years later, no one talked about it. Three years later, most people didn’t know where the spreadsheet was saved. We had the people. We had the resources. Despite the effort to make sure every seat was filled, it became apparent there was no underlying strategy. The bus was full but there was no driver and no clear destination. Stephen King liked thisStephen King liked thisOften, we have a diluted application and appreciation of asset management processes and associated framework that can lead to blind spots in forecasted performance and increased levels of risk that are not desired. Personally, I find it valuable to understand the process flow by mapping it out and flagging the appropriate standards as a quick reference and guide for best practice. The wall chart below represents my understanding of the Reliability and Asset Management Framework on a page as a prompt to ensure I am aware of the process as a whole and tools for its implementation. I have broken the Framework into six sections with focus on: - Executive aspects: Business objectives, asset strategy, governance, and risk (ISO 55001), - Engineering processes: RAM analysis, RCM decision logic, FMECA, maintenance strategy selection, and optimization (IEC 60300, IEC 60812, IEC 61078) and, - Operational implementation: CMMS/EAM execution, work management, condition monitoring, RCA, asset data capture, and continuous improvement (ISO 14224, IEC 62740). This structure is consistent with the practices used by leading asset-intensive organizations and provides a clear line of sight from strategic objectives through engineering decisions to operational execution and feedback. I hope it can add value to your understanding and awareness of the process from a mountain top perspective. As I approach my last week, I leave with immense pride in what we built together, but even greater gratitude for the people. The leaders who believed in me, the teams who challenged me, the breweries and sites that welcomed me, and the lifelong friendships formed along the way. Leading World Class Supply Chain across North America has been the highest honor of my career. While I'm proud of the results, I am most proud of the leaders we developed and the culture of ownership we built together. Thank you, Molson Coors. Stephen King liked thisOne of the biggest reasons I decided to pursue a Master’s in Data Science actually started with a problem at a concrete company. Early in my career at Martin Marietta, I worked in a technical project management role where I often functioned as an internal solutions consultant across operations and customer-facing challenges. One day, I was pulled into an issue where customers were experiencing long wait times when calling our dispatch team. In the concrete industry, timing is crucial. Concrete quite literally has an expiration window and delays on the phone could quickly become a much bigger customer and operational problem. At the time, I wasn’t working in a formal data role. But I became fascinated by the challenge of figuring out 𝘸𝘩𝘺 the issue was happening. I started digging into call center data, teaching myself how to query and analyze the information, and comparing call volume patterns against CSR scheduling and coverage times. What I found was surprisingly simple but impactful: Call volume was consistently spiking right when most of the team was taking lunch breaks. By adjusting scheduling coverage, we were able to significantly reduce customer wait times without adding additional resources. That project completely changed the way I thought about problem solving. I realized I loved working at the intersection of operations, technology, data, and customer experience; especially when the goal was solving messy real-world problems that affect both teams and customers. That experience ultimately led me to pursue my Master’s in Data Science, and it’s also a big part of why I’m excited about technical project management and solutions consulting work today. Looking back, it’s funny how often career pivots start with a single project that sparks curiosity you didn’t know you had yet. For me, this was one of those moments. Stephen King liked thisStephen King liked thisMost reliability programs stall because they skip step one. Here's the 5-step path we use to move a plant from reactive to reliable: 1. Assess Current State Measure planned vs. reactive work, Wrench Time, and equipment effectiveness to establish baseline metrics. Develop a plan to close the gaps, then scale it back to the next 90 days. 2. Prioritize Critical Assets Focus improvement on the equipment with the biggest impact on production capacity, safety, and quality, and on the assets where you're taking the losses. 3. Optimize Maintenance Tasks Eliminate PMs that don't prevent failures. Implement condition-based monitoring over scheduled overhauls where it's technically feasible and worth doing. 4. Implement Planning Excellence Create job plans with specifications. Establish kitting and staging processes. Build schedules Operations can trust, in partnership. 5. Measure and Improve Track leading indicators like Schedule Compliance and PM Compliance, not just reactive percentages. I want you to get there: a plant that runs on prevention, not firefighting. The GSA/ExxonMobil Bighorn Basin Field Award

The award provided the opportunity to spend a week with a select group of students and teachers in Bighorn Basin, Wyoming learning about the geological aspects of basin analysis and exploration. The background and concepts of hydrocarbon systems were studied in the field and as a part of exercises. The final part of the week was spent with a small group creating a play element map for identifying ideal areas of the basin for oil & gas extraction.

I remember during my time at ARE,I created a pilot program to address this issue. The project used a local facility to train local students to become geotechs,core cutters, and soil samplers at exploration projects in Alaska. Most mining states could run a program just like this,if we could just focus for a second, and make it happen.
