Stephen Nees shared thisAdding to FERC's comments about demand outpacing supply this summer, keep in mind that most of Europe and Aisa are currently increasing their regassification capabilities in order to accept more LNG and XNG in the future, representing a firm and lasting source of demand---at prices many multiples higher than what can currently be obtained domestically. This is helping push future prices up at a pace we have not seen before, and making it less likely that they will come down appreciably any time soon.Stephen Nees shared thisIn a new article, Bob Ricobene, Transparent Energy (we're hiring!) EVP of Sales, looks at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) 2022 Summer Assessment of electricity and natural gas prices and sees in it a warning for large energy buyers. Hoping energy prices miraculously come down is not a strategy: working NOW with Transparent Energy to develop and execute an energy procurement plan based on reality is. Stephen Nees liked thisStephen Nees liked thisGas and electric energy prices have decreased recently as can be seen by other posts listed. That is great news for energy buyers, unfortunately you never get the whole package... Price contango (i.e. t1 = $ > t+ = $$$) is impacting both forward gas and electric energy prices. What to do? Layer in price levels, buy an average cost strip are some options.

National Fuel Gas Company • 921 followers
As New York State continues to plan for its energy future, one thing has become clear – New Yorkers want natural gas as an energy option. The recent poll conducted on behalf of National Grid revealed strong bipartisan support of natural gas as a reliable and affordable source of energy, with 42% of survey respondents stating energy affordability as their current top concern while 39% are most concerned with reliability. Most notably, 74% of New Yorkers agree that it is important to invest in natural gas, with 72% in support of building new pipelines that would bolster the state’s natural gas supply, and 63% believe that natural gas provides better value for heating than electricity does. There is overwhelming support for energy policy that incorporates natural gas into its near- and long-term plans. As state legislators reevaluate the current path that New York is headed down, an all-of-the-above approach that incorporates natural gas must be created. It’s what New Yorker’s want – and what the state needs to meet energy demand, fuel the economy and keep consumers safe and warm.

Pipeline spending jumped to nearly $50B last year. Utilities profit. Customers pay for decades. Gas bills are rising 4x faster than inflation & 1 in 6 households is already behind on energy bills. Here in Massachusetts we are saddled with the excessive costs of GSEP, and every household using natural gas is being gouged. (cc: Lisa Cunningham ZeroCarbonMA)

Earlier this month, National Grid submitted comments to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that outline our conclusions and recommendations in relation to maintaining energy resource adequacy in the Northeast. Here they are: 🔴 NYISO and ISO New England Inc. are expected to maintain near-term reliability under typical conditions, but both face increasing risks during extreme winter events due to fuel infrastructure constraints and limited dual-fuel capabilities. 🟠 Capacity markets in both regions are no longer aligned with current grid realities, as they primarily support existing resources but are not driving new resource entry, which is now led by state policies. 🟡 Non-market reforms are necessary to complement capacity markets, including investments in dual-fuel capabilities and long-term contracts for essential firm fuel resources to address structural and policy barriers. 🟢 The current interconnection process is inefficient and delays critical projects, prompting National Grid to propose a competitive, capped queue that prioritizes viable, high-value projects aligned with system needs. 🔵 While regional transmission planning is integrated into resource adequacy, interregional transmission remains underdeveloped, and National Grid urges FERC to initiate reforms to unlock its reliability and economic benefits. 🟣 Federal oversight of interstate natural gas pipelines must be strengthened to address growing reliability risks, and National Grid recommends that FERC explore actions under existing authority to enhance pipeline service.
