Shawn Farshchi shared thisIt is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved wife, Fariba Rafie, on September 26, 2024. Fariba was a loving mother, grandmother, friend, and accomplished engineer. After a courageous 20-month battle with lung cancer, she peacefully left us at the age of 66. Fariba's passion for engineering led her to earn a degree in mechanical/nuclear engineering from San Francisco State University and an MBA from Golden Gate University. She had a successful career at PG&E as a nuclear power plant engineer and later transitioned to Silicon Valley as a program manager. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, supporting her children through their education and instilling in them the values of hard work and perseverance. Fariba and I met in college in 1977 and were married in 1982. Together, we raised two daughters who brought immense joy to our lives. She cherished her role as a grandmother to her two beautiful grandchildren, celebrating their milestones with boundless love. Fariba loved hosting friends and family, exploring nature, and wine tasting in Sonoma. Her zest for life was evident in everything she did, from hiking with her community of friends in Tahoe, to setting personal records on her Peloton. She lit up any room she entered, and brightened the day of everyone she touched. Fariba leaves behind a loving family and a network of friends who will forever remember her warmth and love. In celebrating her life, I honor a remarkable woman whose memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

This day provides us with a moment of introspection, compelling us to reaffirm our dedication to spreading awareness about early diagnosis and furthering our comprehension of the intricate biology, mechanisms, and mutations underpinning lung cancer. It is noteworthy that substantial progress has already been achieved in augmenting diagnostics, early detection, and treatment of lung cancer. However, we must acknowledge that the journey to better outcomes necessitates more concerted efforts and advances. A great suggestion. However, despite the CEO's stated emphasis on security being on par with other critical functions, there is a distinct lack of board visibility. This disconnect suggests the stated priority is not translating into action, and a hard conversation is needed to align rhetoric with reality.

We spent two days team-building, sharing where we came from, aligning on where we're going, and teaching each other on the AI tooling we've built. More than once, our friends in sales intervened with this or that request, and we of course got them done. We kept coming back to a few themes: -When the same legal question shows up for the second or third time, it is a signal to systematize better, not just add more capacity. -While we do that, for our own engagement and for better results, we have to navigate knowing which work makes the business stronger and which is avoidable drag. -And we spent a lot of time discussing and positioning our role beyond traditional risk management.
