Scott Slagsvol reposted thisThank you, Daniel Gertrudes not only for your incredibly kind words but also for encouraging others to listen to Blink: Jake Haendel’s Story. This is the first time someone has made a LinkedIn video talking about me, and I truly appreciate it. Just—thank you. Hope you all take a moment to listen! #Podcast #Entrepreneurship #Motivation 🎧 Listen to Blink wherever you get your podcasts: https://lnkd.in/eRzUJMZ4Scott Slagsvol reposted thisEntrepreneurs often get stuck in their own heads. We replay decisions, question scenarios, and sometimes spiral into overthinking… I did in 2024. Reflection is important, but when it turns into an emotional loop, it can be hard to break free. Last weekend in Austin at #SXSW, I briefly met someone from Boston named Jake Haendel. Unfortunately, I didn’t get much time with him (but wished I did 😔, but my team was out with him until the early hours of the morning after our event. Now, after learning more about his story and binging to his podcast, I wish I had stayed out later. He’s an amazing human being. God bless him. Jake’s story is about resilience, survival, and perspective. His podcast, Blink (see comments), focuses on a specific season in his life—a time when he was trapped yet fully aware but unable to communicate. It’s a powerful reminder that no matter how stuck we feel in our own heads, there is always a way forward. If you’ve ever felt paralyzed by overthinking, listen to Blink. It might just give you the perspective you need to move forward with gratitude for what you have and the opportunities ahead regardless of what’s outside of your control. Scott Slagsvol reposted thisGrateful to share my journey on the AdaptX Podcast. After 10 months trapped in my body and four years recovering in the hospital, I’m now focused on building Ahoi!, an app dedicated to accessibility. Listen to the full episode and follow us at Ahoi! https://lnkd.in/eQNPDuSFScott Slagsvol reposted thisFor 10 months, Jake Haendel was trapped inside his body. Stage 4 Toxic Progressive Leukoencephalopathy left him unable to physically move but cognitively, he remained fully aware of his surroundings and the discussions taking place about his prognosis. After bouncing back and forth between hospitals and hospice care, Jake slowly regained function, one minor movement at the time, and became the first documented case of recovery from TAPL. Now, he's growing Ahoi! a mobile app solution that is aiming to make the world a more accessible place, a mission that obviously resonates with us at AdaptX. Listen to episode 64 of the AdaptX podcast on any of the major streaming platforms. Download the Ahoi! app and follow them on social media channels at @ahoi_app. Picture ID: Jake standing up out of his wheelchair with his arms overhead in a celebratory manner between a set of parallel bars.

Scott Slagsvol reposted thisScott Slagsvol reposted thisWe were thrilled to have our partnership with Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) featured in the Boston Business Journal today. This internship program is the culmination of months of work, and is a fantastic example of a collaboration where everyone wins. Our interns are receiving hands-on experience building technology in a startup, hearing from industry leaders through our guest speaker series, and are getting paid a living wage for their efforts. They have provided incredible feedback on the Ahoi product and have helped build reviews across the state, helping to improve a service that all MRC clients can utilize. Thank you to the entire MRC team for your openness to this innovative partnership, and a special thank you to our fantastic interns, our relentless cheerleader William Allen, and to MRC’s fearless leader Commissioner Toni Wolf.Accessibility startup Ahoi partners with Mass. Scott Slagsvol reposted thisScott Slagsvol reposted thisEntrepreneurship life is incredible, offering the chance to connect with remarkable individuals and founders from across the globe. Recently, as part of my Techstars Boston Accelerator cohort, I had the privilege of meeting Jake Haendel, Co-Founder of Ahoi! Not only is Jake creating something extraordinary, but his personal story is also a true inspiration to many. Ahoi! is an accessibility-focused app that helps users find places that cater to their specific needs. It's inspiring to see that individuals like Jake, Chris, and Scott share the same vision we have at Biogrip Tech. We believe that this alignment is crucial for building an inclusive world. Thank you, Jake, for sharing your journey and teaching me a valuable lesson about resilience. I enjoyed our dinner and conversation immensely—let's do it again soon, my friend!

Scott Slagsvol reposted thisIt is truly remarkable to think how much and how fast things can change. Even for me, it’s hard to fathom how in 2017 I was given months to live with a terminal illness. By 2018, I found myself trapped in my own body suffering from locked-in syndrome. In 2019, with the support of the incredible medical teams at Massachusetts General Hospital, MGB, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, I was "lucky" enough to be nonverbal and paralyzed. At this point, after everything I had been through, most people would understandably be thankful just to be alive. There is no medical precedent or rational reason to think I should have survived my terminal illness, much less have the miraculous recovery journey I've experienced these past few years. And yet, this week I joined my team at Ahoi! as we began the Techstars Boston Accelerator program. These first few days have already been incredibly valuable as we work to make Ahoi an unparalleled accessibility solution. I can't wait to bring the same grit and determination to building this company as I have to my own personal recovery. #techstars #accessibility #inclusion #disabilityinclusion #startups #accessibledesign #equalopportunity #disabilitytech #accessiblityinnovations #ADAcompliance #accessibilitymatters #diversityandinclusion #accessibletechnology #A11yScott Slagsvol reposted thisMeet our March 2024 Techstars Boston Class 💚 Congratulations to our 12 incredible startups transforming the future of health, climate, work and more. Fuck it was hard to pull off. The combination of creative craft excellence and strategic rigor that went into what was in many ways an integrated campaign for the ages was immense. But most of all this serves as a reminder that the best work rarely comes from choosing between creativity and effectiveness. It comes from relentlessly sweating over both. Recognized as an Apple Podcasts Best of 2025, these bonus holiday episodes respond directly to questions listeners have submitted across platforms. Hosted by journalist Hannah Smith, the conversation revisits my experience with locked-in syndrome, the moment I finally broke free, recovery, addiction, resilience, perspective, and life after going public. Part 2 goes deeper—addressing the break, the legal fallout, what was happening behind the scenes, what could (and couldn’t) be said at the time, and details I’ve never fully shared until now. Scott Slagsvol liked thisScott Slagsvol liked thisFall semester is officially done and in the books at university. I had a ton of fun teaching the Junior class this past semester. So much so, that I've decided to come back in the Spring to teach Interactive Design to the Senior class. It's been an extremely rewarding experience thus far, and while I haven't made this my full-time profession, it gave me an even greater appreciation for what teachers do. I'm very fortunate that my early life and adolescence was surrounded by teachers, primarily due to my mom's connections as a Special Ed. educator. She surrounded herself with selfless individuals that dedicated their lives to the craft of shaping and supporting young minds, which by extension, also shaped mine and my brother's. They, subconsciously at the time, provided a prime example of what it was to be an educator. And even still, as an adult, I've found that I'm lucky enough to still be surrounded by teachers. Most of my closest friends from grade school and their spouses are now educators. They've dedicated their lives to the same purpose, while I've been a witness to it all. I suppose if anything it's provided some perspective that teachers really are the best of us. They give and they do not ask for much in return. Their reward is seeing their students grow and flourish. I just understand it a little bit better now. Hugs to all the teachers out there who make this world a better place.

Scott Slagsvol liked thisScott Slagsvol liked thisTonight, I wrapped up my time as Chair of the Advisory Board (and Trustee) for Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham, closing out a decade of being part of an incredible community. In that time, I’ve witnessed three campus expansions (with a fourth on the way), helped bring to life capital campaigns and galas, attended meetings, given remarks, and participated in my fair share of hospital social events—some involving dance floors. But the real story isn’t the projects or events—it’s the people. I’ve met so many impressive, interesting, and kind individuals I never would’ve crossed paths with otherwise—all united by a shared commitment to keeping the community healthy and cared for. Serving alongside them has been an honor and a joy. And while my time on the board has concluded, my connection to BID Needham most certainly hasn’t. Also, they gave me this chair. A very fancy one. Which feels both fitting…and a little on the nose. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham John M. Fogarty Samantha Sherman Alyssa Kence

By turning raw energy data into clear, confident decisions, we’re giving teams the tools to reduce carbon, costs, and complexity at scale. Today, we’re proud to share that Morgan Stanley has invested in Citera as part of our selection into the Inclusive & Sustainable Ventures Lab. This milestone is more than just capital—it’s a validation of our vision and the work our team has put in to help real estate owners move beyond compliance and toward true performance-driven sustainability. We’re incredibly excited about what this partnership unlocks: global visibility, deep domain expertise, and a powerful platform to accelerate our growth across North America and beyond. Thank you to everyone who’s supported us on this journey—our customers, early believers, team, and now Morgan Stanley. AI threatens graphic designers because it extends a mindset we’ve already absorbed, not because it can mimic our work. To be a designer in the US today means you likely turn to efficiency, templates, and optimization over experimentation. It's how we’re trained. I'd like to say that the solution to more human design work involves being more patient, more experimental, and more connected to culture and community, but this can only happen if the entities that pay us properly invest in craft and time. This article by Jarrett Fuller is a reminder that AI's marketing era can lead to rediscovery. https://lnkd.in/eUtnaTTZ
