Scott Lundgren reposted thisScott Lundgren reposted thisLast summer I took a career break. Focusing on myself and loved ones restored my sense of optimism and serenity. Now I'm ready to get back to work. I'm looking to join a company making things that matter for people who value them. Over 25 years I’ve done everything from CSS to DNS. I've been a founder, an exec, led teams at Google and Shopify, and grown startups. I’ve been fortunate to build products that touched millions of lives. For my first decade, I worked in network ops and streaming at AOL and as an early SRE at Google. Supporting the world's busiest websites honed my tech chops and ability to build at scale. It was super exciting, but I found myself wanting an impact closer to customers. In 2018, I joined Daniel Burka to co-found Simple.org, an open source app to prevent heart disease. Our app is used by thousands of nurses every day, supporting over 5 million patients in India, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Sri Lanka. It’s the work I’m most proud of. Most recently I served as VP of Eng at Binti, a startup improving child welfare, and led the Shipping team at Shopify. As a senior lead and exec, I helped our teams understand each other's needs, learn from customers, and make pragmatic decisions that met business goals. So what am I looking for? I’m looking for outcomes. I want to help teams with strategy, planning, and technical expertise. I want to help engineers become their best selves and learn from them as well. I want to ship code that’s simple, flexible, and delivers timely value. At some companies, that role may be VP or Director. At others, those outcomes may require a Principal or Senior Staff engineer. I'm also open to product management roles, or as an advisor to VC portfolio companies. I want to find a place where I can make an impact. We're a good fit if you're looking for someone who can make decisions quickly, get in the details when needed, and trust to hit the milestones that matter for your customers. You're not afraid to iterate quickly, and you're open to new ideas. Read more about what I value: https://lnkd.in/g9VHcqAg I'm an extrovert who values cultivating relationships, building what's important, and changing as we learn. I'm looking to join a company with a positive outlook, solid foundations, and appreciation for its workers. Learn more about working with me: https://lnkd.in/guhV4Vez Thanks for reading! I appreciate anyone who shares this for reach. I really look forward to finding ways to work together.

Scott Lundgren liked thisScott Lundgren liked thisFriends don't let friends automate critical workflows alone Yesterday, we discussed your new role of engaging stakeholders BEFORE your solo vibe coding or agent-building effort to automate a company process. Today, the silent part gets said aloud: why engage when you can recruit? Should your solo effort be solo? The solo effort is tempting. We all want to be THE person at the company who permanently fixes that thing. "Permanently" is the word that throws a wrench into your plan. Because there will always be 10 voices asking, "What if it also did _____?" Updates will always come. Internal processes change. Vendors ship new features. Files move. Access gets revoked. Ownership changes. Before long, your dream of victory parades and finally having time to focus on the parts of your job you actually enjoy has been replaced by refactoring and internal customer support. So instead of thinking like a lone builder, think like you're launching a temporary mission. You're not the Lone Ranger. You're forming the Magnificent 7 for one mission. State the problem. Give it a name. Write a one-page charter. Define the outcome. Recruit the people who will own the problem with you. Time-box the work. Demo the results. Then decide whether it deserves to become a product, a supported workflow, or simply a lesson learned. I can't professionally advise you to call "Not it!" when it comes to owning internal customer support, but if you've ever become the accidental lifetime owner of a "quick automation," you know exactly why we're trying to avoid that outcome. #GenerativeAI #EnterpriseAI #DigitalTransformation #Leadership #ChangeManagement #PeopleInAI #AIAgents #DesignSprint #Hackathon #Recruit #SoloEffort

Scott Lundgren liked thisScott Lundgren liked thisLast week, I began working with the team at CivicReach to help governments and nonprofits expand access to services by reducing communication bottlenecks. In 2008, I worked the phones for 411. Yeah, that 411. I'd log in after my day job and clock 400+ calls a shift. We were incentivized if we could keep calls under 28 seconds. Meaningful nevertheless, whether it was restaurants, dentist offices, or the local non-emergency department, it felt good to connect callers to the right number. I gamified the work, watching the queue shrink in numbers. Eventually, smartphones replaced all of what we did. I don't miss taking 400 calls a night (AT ALL 😂), but I do miss the feeling of helping someone find what they needed. That's what drew me to CivicReach. New technology will always come with understandable skepticism, as it should. While this tech may be new, the mission however isn't: helping people find what they need.

At our hotel rooftop bar, we met Rick, who loves airplanes. More specifically, he loves taking pictures of airplanes. Yesterday, Rick drove the two hours from Jackson, Tennessee to Nashville for one reason: to watch the British Airways flight from London land and take pictures. It’s a 787 Dreamliner. It’s huge. Rick calls it “The Big Boy”. He was so happy that I found myself taking pictures of him while he was taking pictures of the airplane. Here’s to my man Rick. Go do what you love

What happened?” Yesterday, I was at a great thing in Charlotte put on by my pals Dan Roselli, Juan Garzón and Laura Smailes. I met a guy I didn't know, and he said, "Oh, I know you from LinkedIn. I like your writing. It’s interesting." That felt good. But then he asked, "Why did you stop? I've noticed you haven't been posting." Interesting question. Late last year, I had an unexpected and surprisingly impactful encounter with some issues from my own past. Nothing terrible. Nothing dramatic in any practical sense. But it brought to light some things that had bothered me, on and off, for most of my life. When those issues resurfaced, external writing just stopped. I could still consult. My clients didn't know anything was different. I was still organizing tennis. Teaching with Rob. Still showing up at events. Still doing all the external things I normally do. But the desire to write disappeared. Recently, with the help of a friend, I've made real progress addressing many of the things that were bothering me. And for the first time in a while, it feels like the tap can be opened again. So, hate to tell you this, everybody, but I'm going to start writing again.

My wife, Kate Daly, recently launched her professional IMDb page: Kate Daly on IMDb https://lnkd.in/grf9csw7 One of her recent projects was working as an on-set photographer for Segal: Segal (Documentary) on IMDb Segal tells the story of legendary entertainer George Segal, tracing his journey from a shy kid on Long Island to becoming one of Hollywood's most sought-after leading men during some of the industry's most prolific decades. The documentary has already made the rounds at film festivals and picked up multiple awards along the way, including Best Documentary at the Phoenix Film Festival and Best Documentary Feature at several independent film festivals. If you haven't had a chance to see it yet, Segal is expected to be available to rent or purchase on major streaming platforms this July. Congratulations, Kate! Looking forward to seeing what project comes next.
