How JaCoCo Improved the Quality of My Automation Suite For a long time, I measured automation success by test pass percentage.   If all tests were green, I assumed we had good coverage. That changed after integrating JaCoCo into our Maven build and CI pipeline. When I first generated the coverage report, I noticed: - Several conditional branches were never executed   - Exception handling blocks had 0% coverage   - Negative scenarios were missing entirely   - Some service-layer methods were never invoked in tests  The tests were passing… but significant portions of business logic were untouched. JaCoCo helped in multiple ways: 1️⃣ Line Coverage Visibility – Identified exact lines not executed during test runs.   2️⃣ Branch Coverage Analysis – Exposed missing conditions in if-else and switch logic.   3️⃣ Method Coverage Tracking – Highlighted unused paths in service and utility layers.   4️⃣ CI Enforcement – Enabled setting minimum coverage thresholds to prevent regression.  But here’s something important 👇 I don’t use JaCoCo just to push coverage to 100%. Code coverage is a signal — not the goal. Now my approach is: - First, design test scenarios based on business logic and risk   - Then, use JaCoCo to identify untested code paths   - Add meaningful scenarios to cover real conditions   - Avoid writing artificial tests just to increase numbers  This combination helped me: - Improve branch coverage   - Strengthen negative and edge-case testing   - Reduce logical gaps in critical modules   - Increase confidence before release  100% coverage alone does not guarantee quality.   But business-driven tests + coverage analysis together create strong automation.
