Queenie Leung posted thisEarlier this year, I was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases, including Lupus. Since most autoimmune diseases are chronic and currently have no known cure, it is essential for me to prioritize my health and take the necessary time to adjust to my new normal. Thanks to the invaluable support from Mostafa ElBermawy and the team at NoGood, I have decided to step back from my full-time position while continuing to serve as an advisor to support the company's vision. During this time, I will focus on my health and learn to manage the challenges that come with autoimmune diseases. If you or someone you know is facing similar conditions, I would love to connect and share experiences. I look forward to returning soon, rejuvenated and re-energized, ready to take on new challenges.

Queenie Leung shared thisQueenie Leung shared thisLet's debunk a common marketing misconception 👇👇👇 Growth and budget do not have a straightforward 1-to-1 relationship. We spoke with our director of growth, Queenie Leung, on some of the biggest misconceptions in growth marketing: “Brands sometimes assume that increasing their budget by 2x will automatically increase their growth by the same factor. However, the reality is that growth doesn't always scale proportionally with the budget — it ebbs and flows along the way, and the strategy needs to adapt accordingly.” For more insights like these, subscribe to our NoGood newsletter to get bi-weekly updates on all things marketing, product, and growth! Queenie Leung shared thisWe've got a lot to say about TikTok, the future of search, and marketing to Gen Z. If you are at SXSW this week, come to our panel Friday (March 10) as NoGood talks to other industry experts about how social search is changing the marketing landscape. I will see you there - Come by, say hello, and learn something new.Queenie Leung shared thisIt’s virtually impossible to imagine the past two decades of surfing online without search. Companies like Google and Bing have successfully built immense (and lasting) value around it. But things are changing — and they are changing quickly. Join Mostafa ElBermawy (Founder & CEO, NoGood), Laura Vestal (Head of Marketing, Invisibly) and Jacob Bolvig (Digital Marketing Director, SteelSeries) in discussing the future of search at our upcoming SXSW panel on March 10, 2023, moderated by creator Dulma Altan. Queenie Leung shared thisQueenie Leung shared thisHot take on Instagram’s recent updates: Instagram’s shift to a Tiktok like content discovery engine that is primarily interest based rather than connection/social based was the only way to save their declining position on social and they frankly arrived to it a little late. The speed at which Instagram reacted to Snapchat stories did not match their response to #tiktok with the creation of Reels. Like it or not, today’s social media is a highly addictive AI-powered content discovery engine, & that model is here to stay. This is what Genzs favor & are spending their time on. The social piece of the puzzle has effectively moved to our DMs; it’s gone to Messenger, Discord, Slack, Whatsapp, or iMessages; this is where communities are being built today. Here are some industry implications we will likely see: 🤳🏽Influencers: As users start seeing more content curated to their specific interests, influencers will start seeing a further decline in engagement from their followers & more engagement from new users on content with wide appeal or is specific to their niche interests. Relying on follower count and posting low-effort lifestyle content like your meals, or travel, just because you are an “influencer” will no longer cut it. Kylie Jenner's Million Dollar per IG post may not be worth the investment anymore. This will hurt the mega-influencers that lean on their follower count than content creators and creatives who are building their brand by consistently putting out on-trend interesting authentic content that are favored by the algorithm and speak directly to their communities. 📺 Ad offering: IG & FB will likely change in the near future. There is not as much space in a full screen video display. Presenting users with ads every other post will significantly impact the quality of the new experience. If the content serving model changes, the ad serving model will have to change and the advertiser side analytics will likely follow. Not to mention the impact of IOs 14 that they haven’t recovered from yet. This explains why #instagram launched their creator marketplace last month. Ads will become native to feeds, served directly through creators accounts- a proven sustainable way for brands and creators to monetize without impacting the users’ experiences. TikTok has proved the effectiveness of this model, striking the right balance between good experience & monetizable ad space. It certainly helps being a privately held company that can hold on showing revenue in this case. 📢 Creative: The role of the “Instagram Aesthetic” aka carefully manicured branded images will continue to diminish as Genz culture has moved away from the millennial aspirational creative era. We have been witnessing the push towards UGC & a decline on static ads for more than a year now. Today’s creative is all about #community building through relatable authentic-storytelling & partnership. The job of ad platforms will be to amplify that. You can read more 👇🏽

Queenie Leung shared thisQueenie Leung shared thisIncredible things happen when NoGoodies come together. We reinforced this yesterday as we played a (not so tiny) prank on the Nasdaq billboard (and of course, anyone who happened to be in Times Squares), by going public... with our gratitude for NoGoodies past, present, and future. We celebrate ourselves internally every day, but the amount of gratitude we have for each other and the work we do is deserving of a grand gesture. This will certainly be a difficult feat to surpass in 5 years time — though we aren't ones to back down from ambitious goals. Nasdaq #marketingagency #marketingteam #growthmarketing #teamappreciation

Queenie Leung liked thisQueenie Leung liked thisBack to building. After selling my last recruiting firm to Patreon and spending a year in venture, I started Twenty20, where we're partnering with a small number of Seed to Series C startups to help build exceptional engineering teams. We work as an extension of the team, building hiring infrastructure and running the hiring process from first outreach to close with founder-level judgment and taste. The last year only reinforced something I've believed for a long time: great recruiting isn't only about filling roles. It's about helping shape the company you're trying to build. Super thankful to our early partners for trusting us. I'm excited to continue building alongside them. I've been pretty heads down over the last several months and am finally starting to pick my head back up. I'd love to reconnect and hear what folks have been up to.

Queenie Leung reacted on thisQueenie Leung reacted on thisAfter an incredible 5.5+ years at Airtable, I'm excited to share that I've joined Runway as Chief Product Officer. I've always been drawn to technologies that give people superpowers. At Airtable, we made software creation accessible to people who never thought of themselves as builders and helped over 500k organizations (from small teams to the Fortune 100) turn their own ideas into the applications that run their businesses. A huge thank you to Howie Liu, Andrew Ofstad, Emmett Nicholas and the team I had the privilege of working with along the way! Cristóbal Valenzuela, Anastasis Germanidis, Alejandro Matamala-Ortiz and the team at Runway have created video and world models that are democratizing creative production, enabling anyone with a vision to create high-quality content. Not only that, but Runway's world models are starting to simulate how the world actually works, with applications across robotics, user experience, gaming and much more. Beyond the ambitious vision, the talent, energy, and speed of this team are second to none. We're hiring across all functions, so if you're motivated by Runway's vision I'd love to connect!

GEO is a brand new category at this year's Shorty Awards, and it means so much that we're the first team ever to take it home! To the SteelSeries team, thank you for trusting us and for being bold enough to invest in a new channel while everyone else was still asking questions about it. Thank you to the NoGood team that built the playbook from the ground up, and to the Goodie AI team for building the tool that made this all possible. AI search is becoming one of the biggest channels in marketing, and we've been ahead of it from day one. Congrats to everyone involved — this one's for you! #ShortyAwards #GEO #AISearch

Queenie Leung reacted on thisQueenie Leung reacted on thisOn May 15, I graduated from the UCLA Law Master of Legal Studies program after two years of mostly part-time study. I had nearly gone to law school 25 years ago, and I wanted, as a journalist, to better understand how to read cases, judicial opinions, statutes and regulations and explain them to the public. I am so grateful to Dean Michael Waterstone, Assistant Dean Jason Fiske, MLS Director Emily N., and MLS Program Manager Justin Cheng for their leadership and support. I learned a ton from professors Kenneth Vandevelde, Cynthia Merrill, Connie Lew-Corbridge, Clyde Spillenger, Lawrence Sager, Ingrid Eagly, Lauren van Schilfgaarde, Jon Michaels, Ellen Aprill, Rose Chan Loui, Anna Spain Bradley, Mark Greenberg, LaToya Baldwin Clark, and Khaled Abou El Fadl. I'm especially grateful to my classmates—we ranged from our 20s to our 70s; many of us already had graduate degrees; and all of us balanced study with family and work commitments in fields like education, entertainment, health care, local government, and HR/employment. (Two former LAT colleagues, Alejandra Reyes-Velarde and Jaclyn Cosgrove, are past graduates and inspired me to apply.) I strongly encourage journalists to consider applying to this program — it's very flexible, can be done remotely and part-time over 2 to 4 years, and offers generous scholarship funding. I have a big place in my heart for UCLA. I'm so glad to have joined the Bruin community!

Queenie Leung reacted on thisQueenie Leung reacted on thisI’m excited to share that Orbital by moonshot.la is now a reality. It’s an AI-first system that transforms how professionals manage relationships, moving beyond traditional CRMs. In an earlier blog post, I wrote about the itch to create a tool that keeps you effortlessly connected to the people who matter most. Now, that idea has turned into a product. Orbital.la isn’t just another tool. It’s an AI assistant that remembers the context behind your relationships, from past conversations to the nature and rhythm of each connection. It helps compose messages, schedule follow-ups, surface important context, and keep outreach organized, whether you’re nurturing existing relationships or reaching out to new ones. Orbital.la integrates directly with Gmail, Google Calendar, and Outlook, creating a connected layer around your communication and workflow. Designed for solo entrepreneurs, CEOs, business developers, recruiters, and VCs managing portfolios and partnerships, Orbital.la reflects a new generation of relationship management: intelligent, personal, and scalable. Queenie Leung liked thisQueenie Leung liked thisOn Thursday, I had the privilege of being in conversation with Seth Green, dean of the The University of Chicago Graham School, on the past, present and future of journalism as part of the school’s America at 250 series. We covered a lot of ground: the hyper-partisan, propagandistic press of the early Republic; the beginning of a more professionalized ethos of journalistic practice in the 1890s-1920s, as mass advertising to a broad consumer base pushed newspapers away from extremes; and the postwar decades in which journalists began to put their investigative, accountability mission first. That system is now giving way to a fragmented/decentralized information landscape in which the user experience is increasingly mediated through algorithms and, now, AI. I was so grateful to see friends and colleagues who came for the talk — Hal Weitzman, Rachel Piontek, Kamilah N. Foreman, Lía M. Barrios, Kwetey Nartey, Sohei Ide — and to meet folks working to improve the Chicago news ecosystem, including Kurt Roger Cherry and William W. Towns, Ph.D., MBA. Thanks especially to my buddy Katherine Reisner for taking this photo and Marina Malazoniya for her superb work organizing this event.

Queenie Leung reacted on thisQueenie Leung reacted on thisToday, we marked an important step for Prime Video in Southeast Asia with the launch of our first-ever local slate in the Philippines. As we continue to shape our programming strategy across APAC, the focus remains clear: bringing together global scale and strong local relevance. The Philippines is a powerful example of that, where deeply rooted, culturally specific stories have the potential to resonate far beyond their origin. What we’re building is a truly holistic entertainment destination. From local Originals to global hits, Korean series, anime, and live sports, our goal is to serve audiences with a breadth of content that reflects how they watch and connect today. It’s incredibly exciting to see this come to life alongside such a strong community of creators, partners, and talent. Looking forward to what’s ahead for Prime Video in the Philippines and across the region.

December is when retention complexity becomes visible. Post-BFCM pressure is one of the most misunderstood parts of the subscription calendar. The failed payments and active cancellations that surface in December and January are rarely driven by a single cause. They come from stacked effects. Discount-driven acquisition lowers intent. Gift recipients convert into payers. Renewals cluster into tight billing windows. The result is a temporary but intense surge in failed payments and cancellations. This is why experienced teams treat Q4 retention as an infrastructure decision, not a campaign. Across 10+ years of cross-vertical work, the same preparation principles show up again and again: Deliverability that holds up at scale Decline-code logic aligned with real payment behaviour Segmentation that separates seasonal cohorts from long-term customers Attribution that allows honest measurement during noisy periods Retention systems built earlier absorb the pressure. Systems built later tend to amplify it. The post-BFCM wave is predictable. The end of Q4 simply makes it visible. A smarter approach to subscriber retention: https://churnbuster.io/

Performance marketers are no longer treating CTV as a test budget. They’re expecting the same transparency and revenue accountability they get from search and social. Streaming has the reach. Now it has to prove the business impact. I share the key takeaways in the video below. #etailwest #etailPalmSprings #adtech #ConnectedTV #performancemarketing
