Rosalyn Smith liked thisRosalyn Smith liked thisI’m tired. Not tired of the work. Tired of the noise around the work. The conferences. The membership dues. The flights. The days away from my business, my team, my family, all to sit in a room and hear the same information recycled by the same voices, packaged a little differently each time. Somewhere along the way we stopped asking the one question that matters most: what is the ROI? Time is not a renewable resource. It is the most precious thing I own, and if I’m not careful, other people and organizations will gladly take it from me without giving anything back. Not new ideas. Not real connections. Not deal flow. Not a single thing that moves my business or my net worth forward.

Rosalyn Smith liked thisRosalyn Smith liked thisHelp me celebrate my grandmother's 101st birthday! On July 6, 1925 Elda L. Lewis was born in Colfax, LA. She grew up one of 17 siblings. She is lucky number 13! One generation removed from slavery, her parents farmed and lived abundantly on their OWN land. She attended both Southern University and A&M College- Baton Rouge and Tuskegee University, before receiving her nursing diploma from Cabrini Hospital in Chicago. She knew her purpose early on and retired from nursing after 35+ years of service. My grandmother is living an amazingly storied life, full of tenacity and grace. Birthing two children 10 months apart in the 1940s, still parenting them 77 years later while being a grandmother and a great-grandmother. And 100+ years in she's experiencing new personal milestones, road tripping this May to watch her youngest great-gran graduate summa cum laude. Next goal up: visiting her little sister (who's about 99 years old), in LA this summer! Elda is a risk taker, unafraid of living at her own pace! A typical conversation goes something like this: Me: Is that a no chip manicure??! Her: Yes. Me: Who took you to get your nails done??? Her: I took the bus. Me: WHAT?!! 😮 Yes, she's still hopping on the CTA to either go to the gym or get her nails done. I just hold my breath and pray for coverage. Suddenly, I am realizing that my grandmother is a UNICORN, living unassisted, independently, and abundantly on her OWN terms, at 101. While America just celebrated Juneteenth and 250 years of independence, I think it's pretty cool to have a grandparent who's lived through 17 presidents, the stock market crash, the new deal, WWII, the great migration, Brown v. Board of Education, the race to the moon, the civil rights act, Roe v. Wade, women's empowerment, the first black President, and modern technologies like talking films, tv, technicolor, the jazz revolution, the computer age, and cell phones (yes, she has one). One of the benefits of a long life is wisdom. And I am grateful to get simple, yet effective guidance from someone who embodies dynamism. For the two of us, that means leading with both confidence and kindness, holding on to the good and releasing the bad, shifting the atmosphere, making life better for others by being in the room, and knowing our worth. Yep, I get it from my grandmother. It's pretty special and rare to have unrestricted access to a living legend! So in honor of my grandmother's 101st year, I've decided to share 101 lessons I've learned from her, and other women who've covered me, shaped me, inspired me, and even saved my life. Some of them you'll know and some we'll discover along the way. But for now, I just want to pause and celebrate this perfect moment by sharing my family's greatest treasure with you, Elda L. Lewis. Maybe you needed some good news today, a distraction, or a reminder to design your path…on your own terms. Take it in! She is life in overflow. She is wellness. She is success. 💯 💫 🎂

Rosalyn Smith liked thisRosalyn Smith liked thisSharing a few scenes (and behind the scenes!) from a remarkable week celebrating America’s 250th. The team at the National Constitution Center has been working for years on events, exhibits, and all measures imaginable to welcome the world for this historic moment. Through ways big and small—from our Liberty Medal ceremony honoring His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, to new signage in our parking garage, to a 250-person ‘living Liberty Bell’ assembled at 6 a.m. in 100 degree heat—my incredible colleagues at the NCC and partners from Philadelphia’s Historic District showed Americans and the world humble gestures of hospitality, beautiful expressions of collaboration, and also a picture of how to feel both pride and responsibility as we reflect on our 250 years. I’m enormously grateful to the NCC team who worked innumerable hours, our partners, of whom there were many across the city, and the visitors and guests who spent their holiday with us and who will join us throughout the Civic Decade ahead. Also a big thanks to my family who were good sports this week and in the lead-up. Good to be back with my kids (and Christopher Ehlinger, CLCS who did the lion’s share of the childcare and who was also lucky enough to spend the Fourth at the World Cup game!).
