Praveen Penmetsa shared thisFood security and sustainability remain critical and worsening global challenges. Proud of what the team built at Monarch and grateful to everyone who believed in the mission and helped make it real. Sharing an important update on Monarch's technology and what's next.Praveen Penmetsa shared thisToday we are sharing an important update on Monarch's technology and what comes next. Seven years ago, we set out to push agriculture forward by building one of the first smart, electric, software-defined tractors. From by-wire systems to exportable power, V2G capability, and a camera-first autonomy stack, we had a clear mission: improve food sustainability and small farmer economics with a new global tractor architecture. We’re proud of what we built. The team pushed the technology forward and showed what’s possible when you rethink the farm tractor from the ground up. We are now seeing similar architectures emerge from major OEMs. Building and scaling a new tractor platform in agriculture came with unforeseen challenges. We had to make difficult decisions, including a shift away from manufacturing to a technology licensing model which validated that the core EV & AV technology could operate across tractors, augers, utility vehicles, and construction equipment. We recognize that this transition caused disruption to customers and partners, and we understand the impact it has had. We appreciate the customers and partners who’ve continued to support us through the transition. We are deeply grateful to the early customers who took a chance on us, the investors who backed the vision, and the team who believed in a more sustainable food ecosystem and put in an extraordinary amount of work to make it real. We are also happy to share that Monarch’s core technology, including our software-defined vehicle platform, perception stack, and electrification systems, has been acquired by a large global equipment manufacturer. It means the technology will continue to move forward. Thank you to our employees, investors and customers for being a part of this journey.

Praveen Penmetsa posted thisIn 2025, over 70% of Monarch’s revenue came from our licensing business, and this segment is expected to grow further in 2026. Due to strong software demand and a slowdown in agricultural markets, Monarch has been restructuring its workforce over the last few weeks to focus on software and licensing. Despite challenges, Monarch remains the world’s largest fleet of smart electric tractors, showcasing the possibilities of Software Defined Vehicles in the compact Ag and Construction segments. We are a mission-focused team committed to sustainable and efficient land management and we continue to evolve and mature our technology and business models.

Praveen Penmetsa shared thisMatthew Rogers said it well. AI & Robotics with real world use cases showing tangible and measurable value is the future. For example: Monarch's autonomous dairy feed pushing app reduces labor costs, fuel costs & input costs due to regular feed pushing(sometime 10+ times a day). Now we are also able to port the same dairy feed pushing app onto different farm vehicles using our MonarchOne Platform. More efficient and more sustainable thanks to Physical AI. #AgTech #AI #Autonomy #SoftwareDefinedVehicles #MonarchOnePraveen Penmetsa shared thisLet’s retire the phrase “climate tech.” In order to scale up grids, add resilience to infrastructure, and prevent the housing market from insurance collapse, we need to retire not just the language, but the entire categorization of “climate tech”. We must dismantle the umbrella term into specific areas in need of urgent work like energy tech, waste tech, food tech, and carbon tech. For example, my team Incite.org invested in Monarch Tractor, a startup with a fleet of AI-powered electric vehicles and tech solutions that work for agricultural clients ranging from dairy farmers to municipalities to winemakers. Monarch isn’t a “climate tech” company. It’s an AI and robotics company with clear environmental benefits. Don’t get me wrong. “Climate tech” served well as an initial rallying cry. Now, we must get specific and tackle problems at scale with advanced technology operating where AI meets the physical world. There is no alternative. I make my case in Fast Company. Article in comments. Welcome thoughts/high fives/counterpoints in there as well.

Praveen Penmetsa shared thisWas a great retrospective on the Monarch journey to date with Simon. Thanks for the opportunity to shine a light on food security and farmer challenges. #ClimateTechPraveen Penmetsa shared thisWhy hasn’t agriculture transformed faster— despite all the tech? 🌾🤖 It’s not because farmers aren’t innovative. It’s because they only get 40 tries in a lifetime— and every risk has real cost. In this clip, Praveen Penmetsa, CEO of Monarch Tractor, breaks down the real reason tech adoption is so hard in farming… and how Monarch is solving it by aligning incentives across the entire ecosystem— from food companies to regulators. 🎯 Lesson: It’s not just about building great tech. Praveen Penmetsa liked thisPraveen Penmetsa liked thisAfter 3 years of blood, sweat, tears and Dust....our baby Dust Moto has been acquired by the incredible LiveWire. Our mission has always been to build an iconic American dirt bike brand, and get more people twisting throttle off-road than ever before. It was clear to us that a combination of amazing design, singular storytelling, and razor sharp product execution would get the industry to pay attention, and it feels amazing to have a public company step up and show they believe as well. Even if only judged by the history books filled with failed startups, it's clear that starting a motorcycle business from scratch is hard work. How hard really? Impossible to really describe in words, impossible to convey. But through all of the challenges, the setbacks, and days when we weren't sure we could continue, we had the incredible team of Jarett Volkoff, Neil Tierney, Ronny Vena, Chris Pomering, Ken Wang, Derek Cuny and Mitchell Burke helping pull us through to the next level. The next phase of building Dust will be all about stellar execution, scale distribution and incredible support. It is without a doubt that the Livewire group is the right place for crew to be taking on this next phase of challenges, and I couldn't be more grateful to have the chance to shape the future of motorcycling within such a storied brand family. Thank you to everyone who has played a critical role in getting to this point, including our early crowdfund backers. Just a recharging stop on the greater journey to an enduring moto business. Praveen Penmetsa liked thisPraveen Penmetsa liked thisWell, the time has come! As of April 2025, I’ve officially retired after 40+ rewarding years in my career. When I look back, what stands out most are the talented, thoughtful, and hard-working people I was fortunate to collaborate with — colleagues, clients, mentors, and teams who shaped my path in countless ways. My journey began in engineering, designing and building cars for GM and Toyota, and eventually brought me into the design world, where I had the joy of helping create products across many industries. Somewhere along the way, I discovered an unexpected passion for leading and growing organizations. Blending pragmatism with a genuine care for people became a foundation for helping teams and businesses thrive. As I step into this next chapter, I’m excited for more time with family, sailing, travel, and finding meaningful ways to give back. I’m also open to select advisory conversations with mission-driven leaders and people-centric organizations. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. The relationships, the shared challenges, the wins, and the learning — these are what I’ll carry forward with me. And now that I’ve retired, I finally will have time for that morning coffee, a hike in the woods, or a sail on the bay. Please feel free to reach out — I’d love to stay connected. Best, Tim

So my quick thought going in to this week: be cautious on the $50K headline floating around for production cost on on next gen Waymo IONIQ 5 with Hyundai Motor Company as reported by Gasgoo 盖世汽车, The Verge, Electrek and others. There is a big difference between an OEM providing vehicle and a fully functional autonomous vehicles outfitted with an L4 autonomous system. I worry this number will become parroted as price anchor, and then embedded in reports and financial estimates because the reporting is not precise--so let me be: the initial 2024 press release (see here: https://lnkd.in/gAQHZtCw) stated the vehicle with be delivered "autonomous-ready" so that figure should NOT be interpreted as the all-in cost of a fully-functional, Level-4 autonomous vehicle. Furthermore our research at the Autonomous Vehicles and the City Initiative doesn’t support that level of cost compression on the AV stack itself. Our assumption is that the $50K reflects the base cost of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicle — not the fully integrated L4 system components — which could range from $100-200K based on our (albeit dated) work https://lnkd.in/gUEXvCHU. Furthermore, given that Waymo’s self-driving architecture grew out of the DARPA/robotics tradition and is heavily sensor-fusion based — it’s unlikely that they would want to relinquish control over hardware/software integration in the vehicles. Even as companies increasing rely more on end-to-end AI approaches with leaner sensors, this hardware / systems integration is still a key to performance. https://lnkd.in/g79UpNAt

Very interesting news out of the EV and Autonomous Driving spaces this morning. Lucid Motors, Nuro and Uber announce they are throwing their hats into the Waymo x Tesla robotaxi ring. Here's the details that seem to be getting overlooked: 1. Uber plans to deploy 20,000 vehicles or more... over the next six years. 2. The first scheduled launch doesn't happen until... late 2026. 3. There is a single prototype already driving around... a closed circuit. 4. Vehicle pricing is still TBD... while Lucid loses $200,000 on avg. at current retail pricing. 5. Nuro is best known for autonomous delivery vehicles for... Domino's / food delivery. I don't see this having a meaningful impact for any of the three parties, and it just gives Tesla and Waymo a further head start. Ignore the headline, the details matter. $LCID stock up >30% today, let's see how it settles over the next few days as more people learn of the details of the deal. In our latest article, "Tesla Loses at CAFC in Split Decision Upholding EV Charger Claims", author Eileen McDermott wrote, "Charge Fusion Technologies, LLC has managed to defend its patent at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC), with a split panel on Thursday affirming the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s (PTAB’s) decision that Tesla failed to prove Charge Fusion’s electric vehicle (EV) charger claims unpatentable. The opinion was authored by Judge Chen, who was joined by Judge Reyna, while Judge Dyk filed a dissenting opinion.
