And I have a physical therapist who is considerably more patient with me than I am with myself. It turns out I am better at advising patience than practicing it. Healing takes the time it takes. For patients, for systems, for a stubborn physician who just wants to get back out there. I'll get there. Just not fast enough.

Kindness is free, humanity is forever 💕💕 After the bad weather in Dallas this weekend, I had to fly to Nashville for work. What started out as a cancelled flight turned into more than 13+ hour travel day. I could not complain, there had been people sleeping in the airport since Sunday, so 13 hours was just that. On the way back, American Airlines employee, Ms. Corinne, brought a smile to my face with the nice hand written card that she gave me and a few other patrons. This week was rough for anyone who traveled personally or for work. Kudos to Ms. Corinne and American Airlines for doing their best given the circumstances.

These moments instill a sense of purpose and dedication that defines our company. They are made possible by clinicians who show up in emergency departments, hospital units, and critical care settings when patients need them most. They're supported by hospitals committed to keeping their doors open for their communities. And they're enabled by the SCP Health team members working behind the scenes to make exceptional care possible. I am fortunate to be part of an organization whose pure mission and strong service ethos make coming to work truly enjoyable and meaningful. I recognize that the passion and drive required to fuel our mission can be demanding. It is easy for our energy to be depleted and for us to feel stretched thin. To everyone who contributes to these mission moments, I hope you take time this holiday to truly rest, recharge, and spend quality moments with our loved ones. Internal Audit in Distributed Healthcare Systems Must Evolve In complex, multi-state health systems, risk doesn’t live in silos. It spans: • Physician compensation models • Distributed revenue cycle operations • IT access across hundreds of sites • Newly acquired entities with legacy controls Yet many audit functions still rely on annual, static risk assessments. Across a system of 5+ hospitals and hundreds of outpatient locations, transitioning to a continuous, data-informed risk model aligns with The Institute of Internal Auditors standards and the COSO framework from Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission. Three shifts matter: 1️⃣ Integrating risk signals across compliance, IT security, clinical quality, and revenue cycle 2️⃣ Delivering forward-looking enterprise risk heat maps to the Board 3️⃣ Aligning audit plans directly to growth, acquisitions, and emerging regulatory exposure This results not only in a stronger audit plan, it repositions internal audit from retrospective assurance to strategic governance partner.
