Philip Gonzalez posted thisThe words we use matter. Particularly, when we are coordinating a global restructure of our economy around a new technology. Terms like "AI" and "Agent" have become so overloaded they are nearly meaningless, and the dearth of shared vocabulary makes coordination difficult to impossible. We’ve seen this movie before. "AI Product" feels suspiciously reminiscent of 1999's "Internet Company." When the dot-com bubble burst, the rubble forced us to focus on tangible value rather than hype. We defined our terms. We created a shared vocabulary around APIs, SaaS, CRMs, Application lifecycles, and all the rest. These terms provided us with a lingua franca that allowed enterprises to scale, engineers to build, moats to deepen, and durable growth to endure. The current hype-to-bust cycle may be inevitable, but if anything can save us, it's some grounded discussions around tangible value, usable products, and durable growth. #ProductStrategy, #TechLeadership, #AIStrategy

Philip Gonzalez posted thisCan we agree that saying "humans" when contrasting ourselves to AI is clunky and slightly off-putting? We wouldn't walk into a crowded restaurant and say, "Wow Jeff, there are a lot of humans here!" If we did, Jeff would probably look at us funny, and then ask where our spaceship landed.

Philip Gonzalez shared thisFor those of you unfamiliar with Tom Scott, he's a YouTuber that explores interesting novelties in mechanical and software engineering. He recently published a video about his experience with ChatGPT and the "existential dread" that he felt after using it. Coming from an understanding that it's "just a LLM that's predicting the next word", he nevertheless speculates that we're about to experience an explosion in growth and a disruption of entire industries not dissimilar to the early days of the internet. He argues that we may be at the start of a new sigmoid growth curve and compares ChatGPT with all of the intrigue, excitement, fear, and lawsuits to Napster from the late 90s and early 2000s. Napster, he argues, was the first warning shot of a larger change to come, a change that fundamentally rewrote social contracts and redefined how individuals and organizations do just about everything.
