Patrick Walsh reacted on thisPatrick Walsh reacted on thiswhat a(n-almost) year. my wife & i had our first child. we found the house we will turn into our home. i utilized my passions to gain a position at a company that pushes me to learn & grow each & every day. my team & i finished 2022 at 140% to goal, & are poised to have an even stronger 2023. we hosted one of seven global pop-ups for one of the most groundbreaking collaborations the brand has ever had. we're on the brink of two more product releases, & another collaboration for which we'll be the sole North American representation- & we're opening in Houston & New Jersey, with many more new markets to come. i'm a big believer in energy. that the energy you bring directly affects those around you, & that the energy you surround yourself with can either aid or impede your ability to better yourself or be happy. jobs can come & go. markets shift, industries react, positions are eliminated, new ones are created - change is the only guarantee. we can't control what's around the corner, but we can put ourselves in the best position possible to learn, grow, & be better prepared for tomorrow. i've never been surrounded by better people, or such productive & positive energy - people & energy dedicated to the team's collective success professionally, but also personally. Jonathan Gentry , Isaac S. , Juan Miranda , Evon Tran - these leaders, my team at NYFS, & everyone i work with on a daily basis, afford me the environment necessary to have accomplished the things we've accomplished, & to continue to add to that success both at work & at home. i am excited & honored to be growing the GENTLE MONSTER brand in the US, & with it, to be able to extend that positivity to others looking to join our team. i have opportunities in New York, as well as our future site at the American Dream Mall in New Jersey, & my teammates have others around the country. if the environment i've described appeals to you, send me, or any of these leaders a message. we'd love to have a conversation.

Having spent my life in retail, this was particularly the reality for me. Your classic case of - clock-in to your part time job, blink, & you're 10 years deep in your retail management career - I've always had my work aspirations & my passion projects in separate buckets. Advance, provide, grow, succeed - & dream off the clock. It's easy to put your head down, grind, & just accept things for what they are - that the path in front of you is the best, safest, & most fruitful way forward. But if there is any silver-lining to the covid disaster we've all been navigating, it's the societal bucket of cold water to the face which reminded us that nothing - absolutely nothing, in this life, is a guarantee. So why not take the jump? Newly married with a baby on the way, searching for a home amidst the most nonsensical housing market this country has ever seen - i jumped. Twice. Because I felt I needed a change, & because for the first time in my life, I saw an opportunity to blend my work life with my passions. Because you see, GENTLE MONSTER doesn't just make frames. GENTLE MONSTER makes experiences. Each individual location has its own identity, with its own art exhibition which expresses it. When you enter a space, you're not just met with staff & product, you're met with a challenge - a challenge to push your imagination into the otherworldly universe laid out before you. Such is the challenge of working here. The challenge of retail & everything it entails, but so much more. The challenge of art, vision, expansion - the challenge of what's next? I applied for my job with a poem - the one attached here, which attempts to embody what The Visitor, the exhibition in my NYC showroom, is meant to express. Two months in, and my inspiration has grown with each passing day, as we attempt to redefine retail while we expand further into the US. So I challenge you. So you’ve decided to become a Controls Engineer… I hope you don’t like sleep because you aren’t going to get any for the next decade you masochist. But seriously, if you want to get better at ICP design here is how you start… 1. Take your UL 508A class, read the books front to back, then go shove it in your desk drawer. You won’t easily remember most of what you learn this way so keep reading… 2. Go work for a machine builder. In your first week go scope out the panel shop. Find the grumpiest looking old panel builder… there is your guy or gal (extra points if they are Eastern European, you’re about to see your panels look like a work of art) 3. Create your first set of schematics and don’t waste your time trying to make them perfect, they won’t be. Release them to the shop along with your BOM. Give them the morning to review. 4. Take a deep breath and go walk to the panel shop. Find your job and drawings and take a look. Your hard set of schematics should be covered in redlines and lit up like a Christmas tree. 5. Swallow your pride and eat the shit sandwich. Don’t try to talk back or resist. They will be right (mostly) and you will be wrong. Now you may feel sad for them as well because you feel as though you’ve ruined their day. Trust me you didn’t. That’s the best drive home they’ve had all year. They love this shit. 6. Thank them, be humble be grateful. They just made you better. Spend the next year or 2 doing this. Not only will you be a better engineer, but you will have made a good friend and possibly a lifelong friend at that. I’ve gotten interviews and recommendations from my panel builder friends. They trust me and I trust them. Great work. You are now a better controls engineer. Now just wait til you have to write your first PLC program from scratch on the shop floor…

Today's service call: customer says "machine will not operate/no comms to HMI after being shutdown for a year. Nothing will work." First thing to look at is the status lights on the PLC. Did you know these L33's have a reset button? When a CompactLogix PLC looks “dead,” don’t assume it needs replaced immediately. Before calling the processor failed, check these first: Verify power at the controller terminals Watch the LED pattern closely Cycle power and observe the boot sequence Disconnect nonessential wiring and test with power only Try USB communication in RSLinx / FactoryTalk Linx Check for Ethernet link lights Remove the SD card Try the reset button Inspect for physical damage, contamination, or loose connections If the controller has: good power, solid red OK from boot, no USB detection, no Ethernet link, no change after SD card removal or reset, then it is likely a failed processor. A structured troubleshooting process saves time, avoids bad assumptions, and keeps you from replacing parts just because the PLC decided to be dramatic. This one: Dead never to rise again. Automation hardware keeps improving. Robots are smarter. PLCs are faster. Sensors are everywhere. But integration still doesn’t scale. Every new system, every new line, every new facility often means rebuilding the same integrations from scratch. That’s the real bottleneck in modern automation. Automation scales. Integration doesn’t. Until now.

Self-reliance is often just unmanaged technical debt. We build custom "workarounds" in the PLC logic so we don't have to admit something is misaligned. You aren't protecting the system; you're protecting your right to be the only one who can fix it when it breaks at 3 AM. Real authority isn't knowing the answer. It’s the ability to kill a $50k "pet project" the moment the data shows it’s a parasitic load. If your operation stops when you aren't the smartest person in the room, you don't have a business. You have an expensive hobby.
