Last month, we celebrated my non-profit’s 14th annual scholarship gala. We were fortunate to award scholarships to 7 deserving students and to recognize an outstanding community leader.
Since 2009, I have had the pleasure of serving as President and co-founder of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, a 501c3 based in Mississippi. From the beginning, our work has been centered on youth mentorship, community outreach, and providing access to higher education for graduating high school students.
Since 2010, we’ve awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships and community outreach support to 75+ students and local leaders. We were proud to continue that work by supporting another group of worthy scholarship recipients last month.
But this year’s event was different…
This was our first event since the passing of my brother and co-founder, Shun Carmichael.
In his honor, we established the Shun Carmichael Memorial Scholarship Award. It felt especially meaningful that the inaugural recipient was his daughter, now a freshman at The University of Southern Mississippi. His two sons, both juniors at Middle Tennessee State University, are also continuing his legacy.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this mission over the years and donated to the cause, big or small.
