Panos Adamopoulos reacted on thisPanos Adamopoulos reacted on thisEveryone on a frac watches the same gauge — treating pressure. That one number hides almost everything that actually matters. That’s what we came to Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC) last week to talk about. Treating pressure is really several things stacked together — pipe friction, perforation friction, what the reservoir is doing. Read as one line, it tells you something changed, not what. Two good engineers can see the same rise and make opposite calls. We pull that line apart. From one high-frequency sensor at the wellhead — no fiber, no downhole tools, no offset well — we measure pipe friction and perforation friction separately, in real time, and turn them into perforation efficiency and a Uniformity Index, cluster by cluster, while the stage is still pumping. The UI lines up with fiber at an R² of 0.92. Most of that, you can’t see without running fiber — and we get it from surface, on any well. The part people underestimate: it isn’t a model guessing from past jobs. The slope of the pressure signature is pipe friction. The reflection is perf friction. Measured, not inferred — and because it doesn’t care whose fleet is on location, the number actually means something. On a Diamondback Energy ,a 10% gain in perforation efficiency lined up with about 1,600 more barrels of early oil per thousand feet. That’s what a better measurement is worth. Thanks to the Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC) team and Society of Petroleum Engineers International AAPG for a good week. From startup roots to one of the more recognized completion companies in the industry... the growth, innovation, records, technology, people, and grit behind this place has been unreal to watch. None of it happens without the crews in the field, the shops, maintenance teams, engineers, logistics teams, leadership, customers, vendors, and everybody else that helps keep this thing moving forward every single day. A lot has changed over the last 10 years, but the mentality hasn’t. Keep pushing. Keep building. Keep finding ways to do things better than they’ve ever been done before. Diversified Wants the Unwanted Rusty Hutson thrives on unwanted upstream assets—primarily conventional gas wells in decline. And be buys in bulk. The founder and CEO of Ala.-based Diversified Energy Company has carved out a niche among its fellow producers, using a playbook that’s made the company a rock star and replicating its success from the Marcellus to new territory in La., Texas, and Okla. Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest from Diversified, which owns the nation’s largest number of conventional wells—as in tens of thousands—but neither drills nor fracs. It doesn’t have to. The company has found its bread freshly baked and buttered by snapping up low-risk, low-cost, long-life gas wells that offer another 40-50 years of life, then retiring them responsibly. As you might surmise, replenishing inventory is vital to Diversified’s business model and success. Since its IPO in 2017, Diversified has made 24 acquisitions, shelling out a modest $2.6 billion, and going whole hog into the Haynesville, Cotton Valley, Barnett, Eagle Ford, and Anadarko in 2021. Now comes acquisition 25 of Okla.-based Canvas Energy. The $550 million cash-and-equity deal expands Diversified’s Okla., position to 1.6 million net acres and includes undeveloped acreage the company might look to sell. Acreage that could be Diversified’s—dare we say—unwanted. What do you think?
