Noah Nielsen reposted thisNoah Nielsen reposted thisAI is about to change hiring in a big way. But most companies are still figuring out what that actually means. I’m putting together a small roundtable discussion with hiring managers to talk about how AI is impacting recruiting and hiring, including: • Where AI is helping in the hiring process • What concerns hiring managers have • What parts of hiring should never be automated • How hiring may change over the next few years This will be an open discussion and brainstorming session, not a sales pitch. If you’re a hiring manager and would like to join the conversation, comment below or send me a message and I’ll share the details.

Noah Nielsen liked thisNoah Nielsen liked thisIs picking up the phone a lost art in recruiting? Or am I just old? I'd often heard it from prior teams I managed: "People don't answer the phone anymore. Just email or InMail them." Now that I'm back in Executive Search, I've started calling, because that's what I knew, and honestly, I don't have the patience to wait around for email or InMail responses. And here's what I've learned: people still answer. Most are polite, whether they're interested in the role or not. Some are actually a little flattered someone bothered to call instead of firing off a template. And even when they don't pick up, they know a real person reached out to them. Not a sequence. Not a bot. When I started in executive search 20 years ago, the phone was all we had. LinkedIn had just come around, but no InMail, no automated cadences, just a list and a dial pad. Somewhere along the way, that fell out of fashion. Email scaled better. InMail felt less intrusive. Automation made it easy to reach hundreds of people without ever picking up the receiver. But I think we've come full circle. With AI now generating outreach at scale, candidates can't always tell what's real anymore, was this message written for me, or written for everyone? A phone call cuts through that instantly. It's concrete. Tangible. Undeniably human. There's no mistaking it for a bot. Turns out that hasn't gone out of style. We just stopped trying it. If you're in search or TA and have drifted away from the phone, I'd genuinely challenge you to pick it back up this week. See what happens. If you're an HR leader or TA leader who wants your team to recruit and source like an executive recruiter, reach out to me directly. I'm genuinely interested in helping companies and TA teams develop this skill set. #WTalentSolutions #ExecutiveSearch #Recruiting #TalentAcquisition #Sourcing #ExecutiveRecruiting

This isn't about managing one project—it's about building the contractor network, deployment processes, permitting strategy, and field operations that will support hundreds of installations across multiple states. If you've scaled construction or deployment operations in battery storage, solar, EV charging, electrical infrastructure, telecom, or multi-site commercial construction, I'd love to connect. Noah Nielsen liked this"When a former employer, supervisor, or professor (like me) writes a letter, sends an email, or picks up the phone to vouch for a job candidate, we are trading with a currency that is in limited supply and costly to waste: our reputation." Excellent piece by Judd Kessler on the power of recommendations!Noah Nielsen liked thisMy second column for Knowledge at Wharton is live! In it, I argue that with the death of the cover letter, the labor market needs a new signal of candidate fit to take it's place. The letter of recommendation is the obvious alternative. The beauty of a letter of recommendation is that its signaling value does not come from it being hard to write (it typically isn't) but rather that the sender is willing to put their reputation on the line by vouching for the candidate. This means that even if generative AI make a good letter of rec much easier to write, it will keep its value. But a difficulty is that workers, particularly those new to the labor market, may not realize the power of these letters and so they might fail to get them. I highlight my work with Sara Heller, which finds that young workers in the NYC Summer Youth Employment Program do much better on the labor market in the years following the program when we provide them with letters of recommendation from their former supervisors. This finding suggests that the youth are not asking for letters themselves. We also find that many youth who get the letters from us do not internalize their value: many apply to jobs without sharing the letters with potential employers. The link to the column is in the first comment. For more on this topic, check out my book "Lucky by Design." #LuckybyDesign #HiddenMarket #LaborMarket #AI #LLMs p.s. I highly recommend the full "Vantage Point" series, which features pieces by four The Wharton School faculty on a rotating basis. The other three are my excellent colleagues Patrick Harker, Susan Wachter, and Americus Reed II! cc: Ethan Mollick, Allie K. Miller, Julia Breitman, NYC Department of Youth & Community Development

What struck her was the ambition of the mission and the caliber of the team being built. "There was a lot of uncertainty about what the future would look like, but I knew I wanted to be a part of it." Today, she's our Product Lead for the Member Product, overseeing the member app and AI Assistant. Most recently, she led the launch of Predictive Outreach, a new feature that proactively reaches members with serious conditions to help them understand their benefit and get matched to one of Garner's Top Providers.

Noah Nielsen liked thisNoah Nielsen liked this⚽ Watching the World Cup this week got me thinking about recruiting. The teams still competing aren't necessarily the ones with the biggest stars. They're the ones with the right combination of talent, preparation, chemistry, coaching, and execution. Hiring works the same way. Companies often focus on finding the "perfect" candidate—the MVP with the flawless resume. But championship teams are rarely built around one superstar. They're built by finding people who fit the system, complement each other, communicate well, and elevate everyone around them. The same is true for candidates. The most successful professionals don't just ask, "Is this a great job?" They ask, "Is this the right team? Is this the right coach? Is this an environment where I can win?" As the tournament moves into the knockout rounds, every decision matters. One mistake can end a championship run. Business isn't quite that unforgiving—but one great hire can accelerate a company's growth, while one poor hiring decision can set it back months. Whether you're building a World Cup squad or a leadership team, success rarely comes down to individual talent alone. It's about putting the right people in the right roles at the right time. ⚽
