Jennifer Nkonga shared thisToday is day two of an exciting new life chapter. After 15 amazing years with ACS, I moved on to join the team in the Dept. of Epidemiology and Cancer Control at St. Jude, and I'm pinching myself. When I walked across campus this morning through the clinic area, I passed kiddos and families going to and from treatment. The mission is here IRL right in front of me. I have been warmly welcomed and know that this is where I'm supposed to be. I marvel that I get to be a part of Danny Thomas's dream project. #WeAreStJude

Jennifer Nkonga reposted thisJennifer Nkonga reposted thisThe U.S. Senate Finance Committee released its sections of the budget reconciliation bill yesterday, covering the tax and health care portions of the bill that passed the House last month. The Senate bill doubles down on the House version which, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), would result in $793 billion cuts to Medicaid and cause nearly 11 million people to become uninsured with no other affordable health insurance options. Despite hopes that Senators would work to minimize the deadly impact of this bill, the Senate language advances actions that put health care out of reach for more Americans. If passed and implemented, these cuts and provisions designed to dismantle access to health coverage will, as projected, increase the number of uninsured people nationwide, raise overall health care costs and negatively impact state budgets. This bill attains savings by terminating health coverage for millions, impacting cancer patients by ripping away lifesaving treatment for individuals living with cancer, including children, force millions to delay cancer screenings leading to later stage diagnoses, and increase health care costs for everyone. Research tells us time and time again that access to health insurance is one of the most significant predictors in surviving a cancer diagnosis. ACS CAN is urging Senators to remove these harmful cuts to health care programs before this bill comes to the floor. This bill will undo more than a decade of progress in decreasing uninsured rates nationwide and improving cancer outcomes. It cannot be overstated that this will result in more suffering and death from cancer. ACS CAN urges the Senate to hear the voices of their constituents calling on them to protect access to health insurance for those with no other affordable health care options and vote against any cuts to Medicaid in any form and any proposals that would make it more unaffordable to access Marketplace or private insurance plans. Lives are truly on the line. Take action: Tell your senators to vote NO on this bill. https://lnkd.in/eWbwFqYC

1yJennifer Nkonga reposted thisWe’re frustrated. You’re frustrated. Despite so many cancer patients and cancer advocates speaking out, #Medicaid, a program that provides lifesaving health care coverage to nearly 80 million people, is still under attack. Congress is still considering devastating cuts to this critical program. Cancer patients and their families count on this program for their crucial health care, including 1 in 3 children diagnosed with cancer and 1 in 10 adults with a history of cancer. We can’t let this happen. There’s still time to make your voice heard. Send a message to your lawmaker asking them to commit to voting no on any cuts to Medicaid in any form! https://lnkd.in/ed7r2d4jCongress: Commit to voting NO on any cuts to MedicaidCongress: Commit to voting NO on any cuts to Medicaid -

The American Cancer Society National HPV Vaccination Roundtable/American Cancer Society National Roundtable on Cervical Cancer meeting in June demonstrated how research, recommendations, collaboration, and communication come together to move proven strategies into practice. One example previewed at the meeting was the HPV Self-Collection Implementation Dashboard, a new resource that connects healthcare professionals with peers implementing HPV self-collection to facilitate shared learning. In this article, I reflect on why this milestone matters, and why communication is essential to translating evidence into action.Turning Evidence Into Action: Reflections on the HPV Self-Collection Implementation DashboardTurning Evidence Into Action: Reflections on the HPV Self-Collection Implementation DashboardKatherine M. Jennifer Nkonga liked thisTwenty years of service. Countless student lives impacted. While most people never see the work, Norman's dedication helps ensure that hundreds of SSF resident scholars have a safe, comfortable, and dependable place to call home. Whether it's a late-night emergency or routine maintenance, he is always there when needed. Thank you, Norman Moore, for 20 years of commitment to our resident scholars and our mission. SSF is stronger because of you. Congratulations on this incredible milestone! #StudentSuccess #ServiceLeadershipJennifer Nkonga liked thisTwenty years in, Norman Moore is still the first call when something goes wrong in an SSF house at 3 a.m., and still the reason it's fixed by morning. As Director of Maintenance for North Florida, Norman keeps SSF’s 17 scholarship houses in Tallahassee safe, functioning, and livable for the students who call them home. It's work most resident scholars never see and never have to think about, which is exactly the point. A burst pipe at midnight, a power outage on a holiday, an alarm in the middle of the night: when something breaks, Norman is already on his way. On call 24/7, 365 days a year, he makes sure that "rent-free housing" also means safe, functioning, and dependable housing. Norman’s steadiness is the kind that doesn't announce itself. It shows up in the constant, unglamorous work of keeping SSF scholarship houses running so students can focus on their education instead of their living conditions. Two decades in, that commitment is as reliable as ever, a record of real dedication and character. Congratulations on twenty years, Norman. The comfort and security of every SSF resident scholar across our Tallahassee houses owe so much to your dedication and commitment to their wellbeing, and we're grateful you're still the one looking out for them. Thank you.

But as Cervivor Founder and Chief Visionary Tamika Felder reminded lawmakers during her recent Senate testimony, the work is far from over. 🩸 The Unspoken Transition: When HIV Prevention Becomes a Competitive Job Market Let’s be real — many of us working in HIV care, treatment, and prevention can feel the shift coming. As federal priorities evolve and funding landscapes change, entire programs — and the jobs tied to them — are facing uncertainty. Positions that once felt essential are now being restructured, consolidated, or quietly phased out. This isn’t just about employment — it’s about identity. For so many of us, this work isn’t just what we do — it’s who we are. We’ve poured years of passion, purpose, and community into this field. We’ve turned advocacy into infrastructure, stigma into strategy, and stories into systems of care. And now… many of us are quietly updating résumés, revising LinkedIns, and asking the question no one wants to say out loud: “What happens to the people who built the progress when the priorities change?” ⸻ 💡 So how do we navigate this moment — with both strategy and soul? Here are some lessons, and I’d love for others in this field to add theirs 👇🏽 1. Reframe, Don’t Retreat. Your skill set is transferable. Community engagement, data analysis, program design, and public communication are gold across industries. You’re not starting over — you’re scaling your impact. 2. Network in Community, Not in Fear. Reach out before you need a lifeline. Let people know you’re exploring new roles. Connections in this field are rooted in care — don’t be afraid to activate them. 3. Rest Before Reinvention. It’s okay to grieve the uncertainty. Before you pivot, pause. Rest is also resistance — and clarity often comes from stillness. What’s are some lessons or best practices you can share? #PublicHealth #HIVPrevention #HealthEquity #CommunityCare #Leadership #CareerTransition #JobSearch #SocialImpact #Resilience #Advocacy
