Most people use AI to write code. I used it to break a perfectly good production site. As a Remote Frontend Engineer working heavily with TypeScript, I thought I had my workflow down to a science. I was building a complex mortgage breakdown for calculator-all.com last week using TanStack Query. Cursor suggested a 'refactor' that looked incredibly clean. It promised better caching and much less boilerplate. I trusted it. I didn't just trust it—I was actually impressed by it. But 20 minutes after deployment, the bug reports started rolling in. The data was disappearing on every third click. The 'clean' code Cursor generated had a subtle race condition in the cache key logic that I completely missed during my skim-through. I spent two hours debugging my own laziness, only to realize the AI had hallucinated a state change that didn't actually exist. It was a humbling reminder: AI tools are great assistants, but they are terrible pilots. I had suppressed a TypeScript error with a quick 'as any' earlier that day, which is exactly where the logic fell apart. Now, my rule is simple: if I didn't write it line-by-line, I don't merge it without a manual stress test.
