Lucas and I were halfway through automating a client's system when their IT lead asked if we'd rebuild it later "with real code." Fair question. To someone with 25 years in enterprise software, what we were building in Airtable and n8n didn't look like a real system. His team had kept SQL databases and legacy platforms running for decades through careful patching and maintenance. Now they were being asked to learn no-code tools while keeping everything else running. That first build took us three months. Now we deploy similar systems in a week, not because the tools got easier, but because we've already found where they break and how to design around it. When ChatGPT launched their Agent Kit at demo day in October, the reaction was predictable: people thought it would replace everything overnight. We tested it immediately. The hype didn't match reality. The tools we were already using were more reliable for what our clients actually needed. This is the advantage: while experienced engineers are still unlearning old patterns to adopt AI tooling, we're three versions deep. This is our field. Fluency in these tools moves fast. You can either hire someone internal who learns on your time and budget, or bring in people who've already made those mistakes elsewhere and sole job is to stay up to date on everything that's coming out.
