Madeira Partners served as exclusive investment banking advisor to One Tech Engineering in the transaction. Congratulations to Ken Sandy, Cody Hamlett, Dana (Matykiewicz) Helstad and the entire One Tech team on the successful outcome and new partnership to fuel continued growth. Founded in 1982 and headquartered in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, One Tech is a national provider of outsourced utility field and construction services and engineering and technical consulting for the utility, construction, manufacturing, and industrial sectors. The company deploys engineers, designers, project managers, superintendents, inspectors, field operations specialists, and safety professionals to critical infrastructure projects across the United States, serving utilities, power producers, EPCs, and construction clients. One Tech, led by President and Owner Ken Sandy, has spent more than four decades building a reputation for deploying skilled, project and project support teams for complex infrastructure projects and managing their execution in the field, working alongside clients from initial project planning through final safety review. As part of CEIS, One Tech gains the scale and resources of a national platform to extend that hands-on model to more clients and markets, while CEIS deepens its field execution and safety capabilities across the power and infrastructure sectors. CEIS is a holding company that was formed by White Wolf Capital to partner with and acquire U.S. based companies focused on providing human capital solutions and services to power generation customers, including utilities, nuclear facilities, and government agencies. White Wolf Capital is a private investment firm that began operations in late 2011 and is focused on making both direct and indirect investments in leading lower middle market companies located in North America.

They toured our Champlin facility fabrication shops, visited the Technology Center, got hands-on experience, stepped into the world of trades, and shared some pretty entertaining ideas about what their parents do all day.

Nick Jude liked thisNick Jude liked thisA construction and excavation owner came to us doing $4.2M a year with 18 employees. His P&L showed a 14% net margin. He was two days from missing payroll. He had $28,000 in his bank account. Payroll was $41,000. He had $600,000 in outstanding receivables, most of them 45 to 90 days past due. The revenue was real. The cash was not. Here is what we built: We ranked every open receivable by age and client relationship. $180,000 was collectible within 7 days with the right phone calls made in the right order. He brought in $127,000 in the first week alone. We built a 90 day cash flow forecast broken into 2 week buckets. For the first time he could see exactly where he was going to land before he got there. We restructured his billing cycle. He had been billing at project completion. We moved him to 30% upfront, 40% at mid-project, 30% at close. That change shifted his cash position by over $80,000 within 60 days. We set up a dedicated payroll reserve account. A fixed amount transfers in every week and does not touch operations. He has not had a payroll scare since. We found $14,000 a month in recurring costs that had never been reviewed. Auto-renewed equipment leases, software subscriptions nobody used, overlapping insurance policies. That cash went back into the business. He still does around $4M a year. But now he carries a $200,000 cash buffer and knows exactly where he stands every two weeks. Revenue is not the problem. Cash management almost always is.

The Target store in Somersworth, NH recently underwent such a renovation, and Longboard Architectural Products is proud to have been a major part of the refreshed facade. Nick Jude liked thisNick Jude liked thisA $2.8M sub came to me about a cash flow problem. He was constantly drawing on his line of credit. Couldn't figure out why he was tight. I asked which customer was the biggest piece of his AR. One customer accounted for 42% of his current receivables. That customer's pay terms were net 30. Their actual pay pattern was 55-65 days. Year over year, he'd been carrying roughly $180K extra on his line of credit to fund that customer's slow pay. He was paying ~$15K a year in interest to subsidize their working capital. When I suggested he have the conversation with that customer about either pay terms or a price adjustment, he resisted. "They're our biggest account. We can't risk it." We did the math another way. He was on the hook for $15K in interest. His margin on that customer's work was 7%. He needed an extra $215K in revenue from that customer just to cover the interest cost. That conversation went better than he expected. The customer was paying everyone 55+ days because they could. Once he asked for terms, they offered net 30 in exchange for a 1.5% prompt-pay discount. He took it. His line of credit dropped 30% over 90 days. The customers who pay slow because they can will keep paying slow until you make it cost them something. Not in a hostile way. In a structured business way. The conversation isn't as dangerous as you think. What's the average DSO on your largest customer?

MYTH: Lubrication Is a Simple Task Anyone Can Do. I’ve heard this statement many times during plant visits. The technician usually says: It’s just grease... apply it and move on to the next equipment. But the reality on the plant floor tells a very different story. A large percentage of bearing failures are lubrication related. Not because the machines were poorly designed. But because lubrication is often treated as a routine task instead of a technical discipline. Common issues I encounter include: ▪️Wrong lubricant selection for the application ▪️Contamination during storage or transfer ▪️Over-lubrication or under-lubrication ▪️Mixing incompatible greases ▪️Lack of proper lubrication training These small practices slowly degrade bearing health until failure occurs. In reliability focused plants, lubrication is treated as a critical engineering function. This includes: ▪️Selecting the correct lubricant for load, speed, and temperature ▪️Proper storage and contamination control ▪️Standardized lubrication procedures ▪️Training technicians on correct grease application methods ▪️Monitoring lubricant condition through oil analysis When lubrication practices improve, equipment reliability improves with it. Organizations that take lubrication seriously often see: ▪️Reduced bearing failures ▪️Longer equipment life ▪️Lower maintenance costs ▪️More stable production Because the lubricant is not just a consumable. It is the protective barrier between metal surfaces. Lubrication is not just about adding oil or grease. It’s about protecting the reliability of the entire machine. And when lubrication is managed correctly, many equipment failures never happen in the first place. #LubricationEngineering #ReliabilityEngineering #IndustrialMaintenance #RotatingEquipment #AssetReliability #MaintenanceStrategy #PlantReliability #PredictiveMaintenance #OilAnalysis #Amatacore

Better Specimens. Better Data. As a side anyone else ever see a photo or video of themselves and think “when did I get so old?!” I was honored to be interviewed at AMPP: Association for Materials Protection and Performance and discuss the challenges of producing over a million high quality corrosion coupons and test specimens a year! At Metaspec our vision is to be the most trusted and technically respected manufacturer of test specimens and industrial consumables in the world. We’ve made significant investments in quality and traceability systems designed to eliminate common sources of error in coupon data. Every coupon we produce is OCR-verified to match serial number to weight before recording, captured with an image tied to the weight record, and logged with full traceability including technician, timestamp, balance ID, and environmental conditions. We also operate what is, to our knowledge, the only ISO 17025 accredited coupon lab globally, with tightly controlled weighing, finishing, and cleaning processes to ensure accuracy and repeatability. #Corrosion #Metaspec #PaintPanels #AMPP #CorrosionTesting #MaterialsScience #CorrosionCoupons #GettingOld
