Most small businesses don't fail at hiring an SDR because "SDRs don't work." They fail because they skip the foundation. Someone tells them to hire an SDR. Start making calls. Sounds simple enough. SDR Manager: Week 1: “We’ll review calls next week.” Week 2: “We’re too busy closing the month.” Week 3: “We’ll catch up after QBR.” Week 4: “Performance dropped, what happened?” Every SDR manager knows this cycle. The irony? The thing that feels easiest to postpone is the thing that would’ve prevented the drop. Coaching doesn’t need to be fancy, it just needs to be consistent. Inspect one skill per week. Debrief one call per rep. Document one action. That’s the rhythm that compounds. You can’t scale performance in chaos. You scale it through cadence.

Hundreds… or probably Thousands start their SDR job every single day. And very quickly, most of them run into the same question. Should I focus on calls, emails, or LinkedIn outreach? Some people say cold calling is the best. Others say email works better. And some say LinkedIn is where everything happens now. The truth is, it’s usually not about the channel. Outbound mostly comes down to two things: Consistency and Relevance. Consistency is the easier part. Send the email. Make the call. Follow up. Then follow up again. Most replies don’t come from the first message anyway. They usually happen after a few touches. The harder part is relevance. A lot of outreach talks about the product. “Hi, we help companies streamline workflows with our AI-powered platform…” Buyers read that and think: Great… another email to ignore. What works better is talking about their world. What are they responsible for? What metrics do they care about? What problems are people in that role usually dealing with? When your message connects to something they actually care about, conversations become a lot easier. A simple outbound flow can look like this. Do a little research ---------> Send a short email ----------> Follow up with a call --------------> Connect on LinkedIn ---------> And keep following up. Nothing fancy. Just consistent and relevant outreach. Because outbound isn’t some secret formula. It’s mostly just showing up a few times without sounding like a robot. And trust me… buyers can spot a robot email from a mile away.
