Nasir Bajwa shared thisIf you're dreading a return to the office, there may be good news. Research indicates that most employees are just as productive, if not more so, in a remote working environment - and companies are taking note. Over the past year, we've seen a drastic increase in traffic to software categories that are key to remote work. For example, G2's Video Conferencing Software category saw a 657% increase at the height of the pandemic and is still elevated compared to January and February of last year. This indicates that companies are continuing to explore software that is critical for a remote workforce. While many love working from home, some are struggling to adapt. Fortunately, there are some great software options that can help you stay engaged and productive. Check out my blog post for some tools that can enhance your work-from-home experience. #remotework #workfromhome #wfhtips https://lnkd.in/dMmN2Ce

Nasir Bajwa liked thisNasir Bajwa liked thisI am grateful to share that I spent 12 weeks at Baxter International Inc. as a Financial Analyst Intern in the Corporate Controller’s Group. I had the opportunity to work within the Accounting Consolidations team and assist on various accounting projects. This summer at Baxter was impactful in many ways while learning about the financial close process, journal entries, balance sheet flux analyses, several GAAP and non-GAAP concepts. 📈 I supported the team throughout the month end and Q2 close processes by preparing and posting journal entries and preparing flux analyses for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Prepaid Expenses, and the Days Payable Outstanding flux for financial reporting packages. 💡 I had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of non-GAAP and special items. I was exposed to a new concept that I was not really familiar with. But thanks to the expertise and support of my managers, I slowly understood the basics of this concept. By assisting on various accounting projects, I got a deeper understanding of accounting systems and had the opportunity to improve my Excel skills working with large data sets. 🧩 With fellow interns and FDPs, I had the opportunity to meet with various finance leaders at Baxter and learn more about their career paths but also about Baxter and how the various functions work together to support the company's mission. My summer at Baxter was especially marked by a welcoming culture and meeting great people. I am thankful to the Corporate Controller’s team for an impactful summer. I felt surrounded by skilled professionals and thoughtful people to whom I could ask questions and get the support I needed to grow and learn throughout this summer: Bernie Heine, Sophie Cecchini, CPA, CA, Nils Nordmann, Will Marszalek, Monica Miranda, CPA, Thomas Dubinski, CPA, Stuart Witzel, Courtney Patrick, Nasir Bajwa I also want to thank the FDP steering committee for the smooth recruiting process working with Daniel Nowak, CMA, MBA, Mary Wienclaw, MAFM, and Mohammed J. Khan. I met an awesome group of people that cared about my experience, my growth, and my interests. Thank you to the entire committee for this impactful program and for the continuous support throughout the 12 weeks (and to many more not listed here): Melissa Pazely, Mary Wienclaw, MAFM, Daniel Nowak, CMA, Mohammed J. Khan, Faith Krumviede, Jake Miller, CMA, Claire Martersteck, CMA To my fellow interns and FDPs, it was great meeting you this summer and sharing this experience with you: Madeline Bertram, Cristobal Salido-Malpica, Charlie Fordon, Albin Arulanandu, Nick Nygaard, Akansha Burad, Ojaswee Singhal. It was a great summer learning about the ways Baxter International Inc. Saves and Sustains Lives, filled with fun events, and while building skills and knowledge that will impact the rest of my career!

Nasir Bajwa liked thisThe past 3 years have resulted in some major changes to the modern workplace. According to a recent study, more than 40% of professionals with a job that can be done remotely are now working a hybrid schedule. This has resulted in a growing number of SaaS products that are specifically used to manage hybrid workspaces. In response, I've created a new category on G2: Hybrid Enablement! ASC 740 weekly series, a candid discussion based on real-life examples. Most people think ASC 740 is just a math problem. Honestly? It’s usually a communication problem. I have noticed it many times, the tax team is deep in the Internal Revenue Code, and the Accounting team is focused on GAAP. They both are right, but they are speaking two different languages. When these two departments don't have a clear communication, the year end becomes a nightmare. For instance- The business decides to expand into three new states mid-year. That is great for growth. But if the tax team does not find out until January, you have suddenly got a "Nexus" issue that was not baked into your tax provision. Now, instead of a smooth audit, you are scrambling to calculate state deferreds and potential liabilities at the eleventh hour. The best tax provision is not only the one with the most complex spreadsheet. It’s the one where the tax team and the management actually have a communication before hand on the developments. In the world of tax accounting, surprise is almost always not a pleasant one. If your business strategy changes, possibly your tax provision might also need a change. I'm curious, how does the tax team stay in the loop with the rest of the business? Or are they just expected to fix it during the audit? Next week, let’s talk about tackling UTPs (Uncertain Tax Positions) specifically, why "maybe" is a word your auditors never want to hear. #ASC740 #TaxAccounting #CFO #AccountingLife #GAAP
