Andrew Naab shared thisI am very proud to see the Historic West Fourth District come to life, with over ten new businesses opening between September - December 2020. In February 2019, we gathered neighborhood stakeholders to create, and in time, implement a bold plan for this area. This included crafting a mission, vision, and purpose with the community, and was then followed by developing an identity, brand, and web strategy from the feedback we received. After eight months of extensive research, design, and refinement, we unveiled Historic West Fourth, a livable destination where historic architecture houses unique characters and unforgettable experiences. Our goal through this process was to position this corridor as the next urban district of choice in our city center. It was meant to complement the activity taking place in Over the Rhine, Pendleton, and at The Banks, while offering residents, visitors, and guests a unique, family-friendly experience. If you haven't already, come down and spend time with us. You won't be disappointed!

We have one, second-generation restaurant space available at 350 West Fourth Street, formerly home to Tina’s Bar. This is immediately next door to Rebel Mettle Brewery. It is approximately 4,000 SF and includes a liquor license, full commercial kitchen, internal basement for storage, and outdoor patio space. Andrew Naab liked thisAndrew Naab liked thisToday we broke ground on one of the most significant capital projects in the 153 year history of SPCA Cincinnati: the future Peter G Courlas & Nicholas Tsimaras Medical Center and our new Foster Center. This project is about so much more than a new building. Today, our incredible medical team performs surgeries, diagnostics, treatments, and lifesaving care in a clinic of just 600 square feet. Imagine what they'll accomplish in a state of the art, 4,000 square foot Medical Center designed specifically for the work they do and the new era we're building. Just as importantly, our current medical clinic will become a dedicated Foster Center because we know something simple, but incredibly powerful: no animal heals better in a shelter than they do in a home. This investment reflects our belief that foster care isn't just one of our programs. It's central to the future we're building. But if I'm being honest, today wasn't really about the building. It was about Peter Courlas. Over the past year, one of the unexpected joys of my time at SPCA Cincinnati has been getting to know Peter. What began as a professional relationship became a genuine friendship, and I've come to admire not only his extraordinary generosity, but also his kindness, his humility, and the quiet way he's spent his life making the world a better place. The Medical Center will proudly bear two names because this gift also honors Peter's beloved husband of 38 years, Nicholas Tsimaras. Nick wasn't with us today, but his spirit absolutely was. The love Peter and Nick shared, and the life they built together, will now live on in every animal who receives a second chance inside these walls. Their beloved dog, Beau, reminded them—as so many animals remind all of us—that pets aren't "just animals." They're family. Years from now, most people who walk through the doors of the Peter G. Courlas & Nicholas Tsimaras Medical Center won't know Peter and Nick's entire story. But they will experience their compassion. And I can't imagine a more meaningful legacy than that.

A beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, mentor, and friend to many. May we continue to carry his love, laughter, and legacy closely with us. He wishes to be remembered with the same joy and affection that he shared with all of us. We will be hosting a celebration of life in his memory, and we will share those details at a later date. Each quarter, team members are nominated by their center or service line for going above and beyond in their daily work. These are individuals who not only do their jobs well, but consistently display natural leadership, live our values, support their teammates, and make a meaningful difference for the participants we serve. This morning, we had the privilege of hosting them for breakfast and reading aloud why each person was nominated. Hearing those words shared in front of their peers was a powerful reminder of the incredible people who make up PACE Southeast Michigan. Culture is not built by words on a wall. It is built every day by people who lead by example, show up with purpose, care deeply, and choose to make a difference. I am so grateful for our All Stars and proud of the unique and amazing culture we have at PACE Southeast Michigan. Jarrod brings more than two decades of healthcare leadership experience across academic health systems, community hospitals and safety-net organizations. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to advancing quality, safety, operational excellence and the patient experience while building strong relationships with physicians, team members and the communities they serve. Prior to joining Henry Ford Health, Jarrod served in senior leadership roles with UAB Medicine, including Chief Executive Officer of UAB Callahan Hospital and Executive Vice President of Clinical Operations for UAB Hospital. During his tenure, he led key operational and strategic initiatives and successfully guided the integration of Callahan Hospital into UAB Hospital. Jarrod is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has been recognized nationally for his leadership, including being named a “Top Community Hospital CEO to Know” and a “Top Black Healthcare Leader to Know” by Becker's Healthcare.

Over the past year, serving as Director of Research and Engagement has given me the opportunity to work alongside dedicated public servants, community leaders, advocates, and residents who care deeply about the future of Cincinnati. Together, we've tackled complex policy challenges and worked to ensure that residents' voices help shape the decisions made at City Hall. As I step into this new role, I'm especially grateful for the leadership and mentorship of Zach Blandford. Zach set a high standard for public service, strategic thinking, and relationship-building. I'm fortunate to build on the foundation he created and carry the work he and Walsh started forward. I'm also grateful to Council Member Seth Walsh for his trust and support, and to the incredible people at City Hall I have the privilege of working with every day. Public service is ultimately about people, listening, learning, and working together to make our communities stronger. I'm excited for the opportunity to continue that work in this new capacity and help advance policies that improve the lives of Cincinnatians. Here's to the next chapter!
