Originally I had a long post in the work featuring stories of yore, breaking down into all the languages I've used here (~10), the various refactors of all sizes, why we went with some technologies, and so on. As you can imagine it was getting quite long winded and that content would work better as individual posts. Instead, I'll just leave off with being thankful to be surrounded by brilliant minds, and still having the feeling that I'm not the smartest person in the room. John Mullanaphy shared thisWhen an in-house company joke at impact.com actually gets built out, we end up with: http://john.mu/turkey Co-worker shared the turkey, I suggested we use it for API responses and they responded with a better suggestion of making all responses being placed inside the sign. Carried that a little bit more by also accepting "text/poultry" to allow requests to put their messages within the sign. Anyways, Happy Thanksgiving! P.S. think the original ASCII was by someone with the initials MJP.

It seems like at some stage Claude decided to stop using tailwind and instead opted for styling everything inline. As you might suspect, Claude has hit a limitation with its own approach - it needs to style the hover state for this button, but you can't target pseudo-classes like :hover with inline styles. Claude has a solution to this! It uses a bit of JavaScript to work around this limitation of inline styles. Unfortunately, the whole codebase is riddled with hacks like this. Not only does this lead to an app with subpar usability and performance, it's also completely unmaintainable. My main advice is if you're going to code an app with an LLM, at least set up some good guard rails to avoid situations like this, and read the code (or get someone to read it for you). If it's too late for that, I'm happy to help clean up your vibe-coded app!

Job Hunt Buddy v1.3: Adding Local Agents and Client-Side RAG. I recently open-sourced Job Hunt Buddy, a privacy-first alternative to tracking jobs in Excel. Today, I’m releasing V1.3, which shifts the app from a passive tracker to an active agent. The Big Technical Change: Client-Side RAG Most AI apps send your data to a vector database in the cloud. I implemented Local Embeddings using transformers.js. The app now chunks and embeds your resume, notes, and PDF docs directly in your browser (IndexedDB). This gives the AI "Long-Term Memory" of your career history without your data ever leaving your device. What the Agents can now do: 🕵️ The Research Agent: Don't just apply blindly. The app now has a built-in Web Agent (using Tavily) that researches companies and interviewers for you. - "Analyze this company's recent news." - "Find talking points for this interviewer." 🔎 Job Scout: Connects to Google Jobs (via SerpApi) to find roles that match your verified skills, not just keyword spam. 🤖 Career Coach: Scans your applications, identifies skill gaps, and suggests specific side projects to improve your odds. 🧠 Local Memory (Client-Side RAG): Most AI apps have "amnesia." I implemented Local Vector Embeddings (using transformers.js). The app now "embeds" your resume, notes, and job descriptions directly in your browser. It semantically searches your history to give context-aware advice without sending your entire database to the cloud. Does anybody remember Napster? At first, the music industry didn’t take it seriously. A few kids downloading songs? No big deal. Until suddenly… it was a very big deal. Revenue plummeted. Piracy exploded. And the labels had no choice but to fight back. Eventually, they had to adapt. What followed was the rise of iTunes, Spotify, and the entire digital media ecosystem we know today. We’re about to see the same thing happen with AI. Right now, brand content and brand IP are being scraped, synthesized, and remixed in AI tools every day. Many brands are watching it happen, and just like those early record execs, they aren’t reacting fast enough. They’re underestimating the impact. But once it starts affecting revenue… once knockoff campaigns, duped creative, and unauthorized brand content start cutting into performance and trust, they’ll step in. They’ll demand rights, royalties, attribution, and control. And when that happens, the AI landscape will look very different. The Napster moment is coming.
