That’s why we’re intentional about creating space to recognize, invest in, and support our teams around the world. We just closed out our second annual People Week at BMS, dedicated to recognizing the talent, dedication, and humanity behind our work. Across our global sites, colleagues came together through a series of events and experiences—sharing stories, focusing on well-being, and celebrating one another. At our People Week Rally, we had the privilege of welcoming two-time Olympic gold medalist and FIFA World Cup champion Abby Wambach, who reminded us that showing up for each other, especially when it’s hard, is what separates good teams from great ones. That message stuck with me. The best teams are built on shared purpose, accountability, and trust. Culture isn’t what we say, it’s what we do. And during People Week, our teams brought our culture to life. Thank you to all of our BMS colleagues who showed up. Many of you know how strongly I believe in the transformative potential of cellular medicines. Over the last decade, cell and gene therapies have redefined what’s possible in healthcare — shifting us from managing symptoms to targeting disease at its genetic root. And what makes this moment especially exciting is that we are still just beginning to see how far these breakthroughs can go What drew me to Beam is the extraordinary promise of base editing. Instead of cutting both strands of DNA and relying on the cell to repair the break, base editing is designed to precisely rewrite a single letter in the genetic code — opening the door to one-time, potentially curative therapies and a more reliable path for advancing genetic medicines. The potential for greater precision, more predictable outcomes and real impact for patients makes this work incredibly energizing. That legacy, rooted all the way back in 1946, is something to be genuinely proud of. What struck me most during my visit wasn't just the history, it was our people. I’m deeply grateful for the mentors and colleagues at Bristol Myers Squibb who invested in me, challenged my thinking, and helped shape how I lead. Their generosity, rigor, and belief in developing people continue to influence me every day. Entering this next chapter at Gilead, I’ve also been struck by the passion, expertise, and commitment of the teams I now have the privilege to lead. I’m learning as much from them as they are from me - and that’s exactly how it should be. This transition has reinforced a simple truth: experience travels with you, but context does not. This week on Capitol Hill, it was a privilege to help bring lived experience into conversations with policymakers. We shared stories of delayed diagnosis, barriers to care, and, importantly, what is possible when people get the right support. We were encouraged by how engaged many leaders were in understanding both the science and the real-world impact on the people they serve, including insightful conversations with Senator Andy Kim and Congresswoman Andrea Salinas. That evening, we gathered with advocacy and alliance partners to spotlight the incredible work happening every day to improve care for people living with serious mental health conditions. The conversations were honest, grounded, and deeply personal. Moments like these are a reminder of our responsibility to listen deeply and then ensure those perspectives are represented where decisions are made. Sunday May 24 is #WorldSchizophreniaDay, and that commitment feels especially important. Schizophrenia remains complex, often misunderstood, and still burdened by stigma that can delay care and limit opportunity for patients and the caregivers who support them. Bristol Myers Squibb has a vision to lead in brain health and progress will take all of us: Advocacy leaders. Policymakers. Industry. Caregivers. Patients. Morgan Vlahakis liked thisMorgan Vlahakis liked thisThis Mother’s Day, I’m thinking about a kind of courage that never asks for recognition. My mother has lived it quietly. She had to watch two of her children face aggressive cancer -- bearing witness to fear, uncertainty, and a complexity of treatments and side effects no parent ever prepares for. Twice. At the same time. For my brother, Ray, she became everything. She was his primary caregiver through pancreatic cancer that never relented. She drove with him into the city so he could still go to work—to feel normal on days when his body wasn’t quite there. She held his hand through every pain, nursed him, made him laugh, and made sure he was never alone for a single moment of his journey. And even now, she still visits him every day—holding grief the way only a mother can: as love that endures everything. Watching her taught me what real strength looks like. Not loud. Not performative. But steady. Present. Unbreakable. It’s also why I’m so deeply proud of the work we do at Bristol Myers Squibb and of the people I’m privileged to work alongside -- across discovery, research, development, manufacturing, medical, and commercial. Every molecule pursued. Every trial designed. Every patient supported. It all matters. Because behind every diagnosis is a mother like mine—loving fiercely, hoping endlessly, enduring more than the world ever sees.
