What I've learned through this journey is that ambition without humility only gets you so far. When you surround yourself with humble, driven people who genuinely care about doing right by their customers and their team, there's no ceiling on what you can build together. We didn't get here alone. We got here because of the people who believed in us, challenged us, and worked alongside us every step of the way. Partnerships are hard, but when your goals are aligned, success will follow. This milestone is personal for me. Charles didn't just build a great company, he invested in me. The grace he showed, the lessons he shared, and the patience he had shaped who I am as a leader and a businessman. Grateful doesn't begin to cover it. Mitch Terry liked thisMitch Terry liked thisI am thoroughly tired of seeing recruiters and hiring managers brag about how terrible they are at their jobs under the guise of offering 'expert advice' to job seekers. As I understand it, their job description is to find the best possible candidate for an open position. Yet, every week the feed is filled with excuses as to why they can't. Take the '6-second rule' I keep seeing. They claim they only have time to glance at a resume for six seconds because 'the volume is just too high to get through them otherwise.' In what other career is that acceptable behavior? Imagine telling your supervisor: 'Hey boss, you gave me a heavy workload today, so I decided to just half-ass all of it so I could get done.' It makes zero sense. If you are only taking six seconds to review a resume, you aren't evaluating talent—you’re just matching keywords. The job isn’t to play a game of Word Search. The job is to find the best employee for the role. That means you actually have to read the resume. The whole thing. You have to interpret the experience, see how it aligns with the role’s responsibilities, and you might even have to look up technical terms to understand what the candidate actually accomplished. In short: you have to put in effort. We all know the hiring process is completely broken, but the gatekeepers never talk about fixing it. They just blame the ATS or blame AI. But those aren't the root cause; they are just symptoms. They are tools used to pass a difficult, human task off onto a piece of software. Whether you are a headhunter for a recruiting firm or a hiring manager for a company, you have to do better. You have to put in the work. These are high-stakes decisions that don't just impact a company’s bottom line—they directly affect a professional's livelihood.

After an incredible 45-year career in the laboratory field spanning analytical, research, environmental, petrochemical, and quality control work, I’m excited to share that I’ve accepted a new role as a Logistics Specialist at Sterling Specialty Chemicals. Throughout my career, I’ve never taken the opportunity to grow and learn for granted, and I’m grateful to be part of a team that encourages me to explore something new and challenging. I’m looking forward to this next chapter and all the opportunities ahead.

Not every opinion needs correcting. And not every outcome is ours to carry. Lately, I’ve been thinking about, and inspired by, the “Let Them” theory and mindset championed by Mel Robbins. It may sound passive, but it’s actually freeing. If coworkers doubt your ideas… let them. If someone brings negativity… let them. If leadership overlooks your value… let them. Trying to control every perception and outcome is exhausting. What matters most is how we respond. “Let them” isn’t giving up. It’s letting go of unhealthy control while staying grounded in your values and professionalism. Great leaders understand this. They create environments where people can grow and contribute, knowing that some will rise to the challenge and some won’t. I’ve also learned that peace at work has value—not avoiding accountability, but refusing to carry stress and drama that were never yours to begin with. Sometimes maturity looks like restraint. Sometimes strength looks like calm. Sometimes confidence looks like staying steady amid workplace noise. Instead of chasing validation, focus on what you can control: Your integrity. Your work ethic. Your attitude. Your consistency. That’s where real influence lies. At the end of the day, leadership becomes stronger when we stop trying to control everyone else and start leading ourselves well.
