I am pleased to announce that as of tomorrow morning, a lifetime dream will be realized - I will be self-employed! After years of dreaming, and most recently months of planning and preparation, I will be officially opening Insulation Commandos of Greater Chattanooga. My specialty will be Insulation Retrofits of existing homes.
Over 32 years ago, I graduated from Clemson University. Six (6) Companies, 30-plus Bosses, and 60-plus Offices later, I will be starting the day at MY office and facility working for myself and onboarding my first employee. This new chapter is scary and intimidating on one hand, but incredibly exciting and rewarding on the other! Thanks to the many who encouraged me and helped "push me out of the nest" in support of this career transition.
What a crazy ride it has been... The Housing boom of the early 2000's, the crash in 2008 where most of my colleagues and I got to find new careers, the roller coaster ride that is the Electrical Industry, and most recently the impact of China on the Polysilicon Industry... Lots of ups and downs for sure.
As I reflect on my career, my mind goes back to those special people I met along the way. I can't write this update without naming just a few:
Kent Snyder - you gave me a chance I probably didn't deserve as a young and inexperienced kid from South Carolina. You taught me so much about leadership and showed me you can actually balance work and family priorities and excel at both.
Greg Smith and Ricky Harper - I appreciate your professional mentorship and personal friendship more than you know. Our travels together have provided memories that will endure, but we are not done! Looking forward to the next one in March.
Paul Bogard - I am grateful for the sponsorship and investment you provided me. You taught me the power of empowering others. I have fond memories of the years we spent working together.
Ken Collins and Jim Tharp - You guys epitomize character and class. I watched you lead with an unwavering commitment to simply do what was right. How you treat people left a lasting impression on me. During the most difficult time in my life, you both helped me and my family in ways very few will ever know or understand.
