That background gives him the ability to dive into nitty gritty technical problems and be a hands-on leader and mentor when the situation demands it. At the same time, he naturally thinks in systems and has a knack for creating structure and process that improves efficiency. His bias is for action, and his process ideas discourage bureaucracy and encourage creativity and innovation. He understands the urgency to ship frequently that is critical in a rapidly-scaling company. Under his watch, system reliability increased dramatically and the number of production defects dropped consistently. He instituted regular reporting of critical engineering metrics (throughput, defect occurrences, change failure rate, and review speed) and proved the old adage that “what gets measured gets improved” in an engineering organization. And if all this isn’t enough, he is a recruiting magnet. His active leadership of many different tech communities, meetups, and local and online user groups combined with the fact that he previously ran a development consultancy means that he knows everyone. I’ve absolutely loved working with him, and I would jump at the chance to do so again. He will be a boon to any organization that is fortunate enough to hire him.”
