Start with the outcome, not the request. In engineering orgs, people often ask for solutions: “I need access to X.” “We need a VM.” “Can DevOps install Y?” Most of the time, those aren’t the real need — they’re just the fastest idea someone grabbed to get unstuck. The real question is usually: What are you trying to learn, compare, or decide?
