This week, the first concrete was poured at Niron Magnetics' future manufacturing plant in Sartell, Minnesota, marking a major milestone as construction advances toward commercial-scale production. Expected to be operational in 2027, the 287,000-square-foot plant will bring material-to-magnet production together under one roof and produce up to 1,500 tons of rare-earth-free permanent magnets annually. From site preparation to foundation work and beyond, each step brings us closer to scaling a new class of permanent magnets and strengthening the domestic supply chain needed to support growing demand across manufacturing and advanced technologies.

Over the past few days in Chattanooga, I had the opportunity to spend time with the Astec team in person — walking the shop floor, watching burner testing, sharing meals, and having real conversations about what this next chapter means. Those moments made something very clear: this isn’t just a brand transition. It’s people, history, pride, and possibility all meeting in the same place. I’m grateful to be in a role that can help steward this transition with care — protecting the equity of a deeply respected legacy brand while also embracing the scale, resources, and opportunity that come with an organization of this magnitude. Leaning into the best of both worlds isn’t easy work, but it’s meaningful work — and it has the potential to shape a strong future for the asphalt industry.
