Matt Forkan posted thisStockX has the worst customer journey and customer service of any aftermarket app / service. Their actual lack of willingness to help me after billing my card for an order that didn’t go through is alarming. Far too many companies willing to take money 24/7 but not willing to offer customer service 24/7. I think it should be mandatory for larger companies accepting orders round the clock to offer support around the clock also. Business is a two way street. #customerservice

Matt Forkan shared thisSo it’s been announced. Facebook is now Meta, and with the name change comes a new logo. Bear in mind Facebook is a company in dire need of improving its image after coming under scrutiny for its ethics etc I felt they needed to do something drastic and bold in order to turn the sinking ship in a new direction. However what they’ve ended up with is yet another bland “stereotypically tech” feeling logo…. This to me does not allude to a company on the precipice of changing the internet forever. Something I’m usually happy to do, if it weren’t for the fact their own policy does not allow them to share feedback with unsuccessful candidates. Matt Forkan shared thisFor years I’ve been mesmerized by the endless possibilities of Cinema 4D, so much so I’ve been itching to learn 3D animation myself. However self doubt would creep in, I’d tell myself; “but it’ll take you years to get that good”, “it’s way too technical for someone like you”, “there’s so many people way better than you already”, well this weekend, I finally took the plunge to have a go at my first tutorial. Although it wasn’t massively challenging, it was still a nice way to dip my toes in to get started, while still creating something visually exciting. #animation #cinema4d #octanerender #irridescent #3dart #graphicdesign #cgart

Anyone even contemplating hiring Sam will truly be making a fantastic decision. She epitomizes what it is to have a good work ethic. One of the most talented designers I’ve ever worked alongside and I learnt so so much from her. You really will be getting the Rolls-Royce of creative thinkers.

I've got more than 25 years' experience, but after months of applying for jobs and infrequently freelancing, I'm at the point where my only realistic option is going back to minimum-wage bar work to pay the bills. I'm not asking for charity, just a chance to do what I'm good at. If your budget is tight, let's discuss. I'd rather earn less doing artwork than give up on the career I've spent decades building. Please get in touch if you have any work, or share this with someone who might. Matt Forkan liked thisMatt Forkan liked thisMost brands don’t have a design problem, they have a conviction problem. Everything looks “good.” Clean logo. Nice type. Decent colors. And completely interchangeable. That’s the issue. If I can swap your brand with a competitor and no one notices… you don’t have a brand. You have surface-level polish. The brands that actually stand out aren’t afraid to commit: • A clear personality (even if it’s polarizing) • Distinct visual language you can recognize instantly • Systems that work across real use cases, not just mockups • Consistency that builds memory over time This is also where most companies miss when hiring an agency. They optimize for “taste” instead of point-of-view. Taste makes things look nice. Point of view makes things stick. One simple test I always come back to: If you remove the logo… can you still tell who it is? If not, it’s time to push further.

I spent 45 minutes on this artboard - found alignment with the client within an hour. Design, duplicate, try again, repeat.

Matt Forkan liked thisMatt Forkan liked thisI used AI tools across my entire design process for 2 weeks. Here's the honest scorecard. Claude for research synthesis: 9/10 Synthesised 100+ app reviews into 5 pain clusters faster than I ever could. Would have taken me 2 days. Took 20 minutes. Claude for persona drafts: 6/10 Data profiles were solid. But they read like spreadsheets, not people. I had to add the financial guilt, the embarrassment, the "I don't want to seem stupid" anxiety that makes a persona feel real. AI doesn't understand shame. Figma Make for screen generation: 7/10 Usable first drafts from detailed prompts. But every single screen needed its visual hierarchy completely redesigned. AI defaults to symmetric, balanced layouts. Real design is about deliberate imbalance - making one thing scream while everything else whispers. Claude for design critique: 8/10 Caught edge cases I missed: empty states, error messages, multi-category merchants. But it never once said "this doesn't feel right" - because feeling isn't something AI does. The pattern: → AI is excellent at synthesis (combining existing information) → AI is good at generation (creating first drafts) → AI is mediocre at judgment (knowing what matters more) → AI is blind to emotion (the part users actually remember) The designers who will thrive aren't the ones who resist AI or the ones who depend on it. They're the ones who know exactly where the handoff should happen. Synthesis and generation → AI Judgment and emotion → You That line is your job security. #AIinDesignProcess #AITools #UXDesign #UIDesign

After wrapping up my time there, and taking some much appreciated time off, I’m excited to jump back in. As a longtime San Francisco resident, I ultimately chose not to relocate, bringing to a close what has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to work with such a talented team on multiple global events like Prime Day and to help build brand systems that scaled across global markets, channels, and millions of customers. Now, I’m focused on bringing that same level of thinking to new teams and projects, from brand identity and packaging to large-scale creative systems.
