🚨 If you understand these 12 AI terms... You're already ahead of most professionals. The problem isn't that AI is complicated. It's that everyone uses AI jargon without explaining what it actually means. LLM. RAG. Tokens. Fine-tuning. RLHF. These words are everywhere. In meetings. On LinkedIn. In AI product demos. Most people pretend they understand them. Today, you actually will. Here are 12 AI terms every professional should know in 2026: 1. LLM (Large Language Model) The AI brain behind ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot. Trained on billions of documents. Predicts the most likely next word — at scale. 2. Hallucination When AI makes stuff up. Confidently. Completely wrong. Happens when training data has gaps. 3. Token The building block of AI communication. Not a word — a chunk of a word. More tokens = more cost in enterprise settings. 4. Training vs. Inference Training = teaching the model. Inference = the model doing the work. You can't have the second without the first. 5. Fine-tuning Taking a general model. Feeding it specialized data. Making it smarter at one specific thing. 6. Reinforcement Learning (RLHF) RLHF = Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback AI learns by trial, reward, and repeat. Like training a dog — but the dog is a neural network. 7. Distillation Teaching a small model to mimic a large one. Faster. Cheaper. Nearly as good. Likely how GPT-4 Turbo was built. 8. RAG RAG = Retrieval-Augmented Generation. AI + your own documents. Reduces hallucinations dramatically. 9. Chain of Thought Breaking a complex problem into steps. Like showing your work in math class. Slower — but far more accurate. 10. Weights Numbers that shape what the model "knows." Start random. Adjust during training. The model's actual learned intelligence — stored as math. 11. Validation Loss A score that tells you how well training is going. Lower = better. Helps catch overfitting before it's too late. 12. Coding Agent An AI that doesn't just suggest code. It writes, tests, and debugs — autonomously. Think: a tireless intern who never loses focus. The people who understand these terms don’t just sound smarter. They ask better questions. They evaluate tools better. And they make better decisions about AI. (Japanese below) Last week we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Omniture’s IPO because. . .well why not?  Working at Omniture was a breakout opportunity for most of us and set our respective careers on a different (profoundly better) trajectory.  It was incredible to get the old team together along with a few partners and customers as well.   We are all a bit older, heavier, and at least for me - balder, but when you to battle together for 7 years, it doesn’t matter how much time passes, reuniting always brings back big smiles and laughter as we reminisced about all of the great things we accomplished together. Looking back we were all so young and didn’t really know what we were doing, but we loved Omniture, we worked hard and when we ran into issues we just figured it out and moved on.  We fought everyday.  We fought with each other, with HQ, with partners.  But in the end we made it all work - not through sophisticated analysis or sage decision making, but mostly just through determination and grit.  It was a magical time and as the country manager for 7 years I am profoundly grateful to each employee, partner and customer for being a part of the Omniture Japan journey.  Truth be told 20 years later I realize no one really knows what they are doing anyway.  So the best you can do is find a group of hard working people you like, find a vision you can align behind and just grind.  Nothing is more fulfilling. Also a big thanks to Josh James, Chris Harrington, Steve Wellen, Douglas Grounds, Wade Sherman and Catherine Wong (among others) who were our advocates back at HQ, Neil Weston - fearless leader of the International team, and Marc Gagne my regional brother in arms.   We will always bleed green!! 先週、OmnitureのIPOから20周年をみんなでお祝いしました。……「なぜ？」と聞かれれば、「祝いたかったからかな」？（笑）。 Omnitureで働けたことは、多くの私たちにとってキャリアの軌道を大きく変える転機となりました。その経験をきっかけに、それぞれのキャリアはまったく新しい、そしてはるかに素晴らしい方向へと動き始めました。 久しぶりに当時のメンバーに加え、パートナーやお客様とも再会することができ、本当に感慨深い時間でした。みんな少し年を重ね、少し体重も増え（笑）、少なくとも私は髪の毛もかなり減りました。でも、7年間一緒に戦った仲間とは、どれだけ時間が経っても変わりません。再会すると、あっという間に当時に戻り、一緒に成し遂げた数々の出来事を振り返りながら、笑顔と笑いが絶えませんでした。 振り返ってみると、当時の私たちは本当に若く、正直なところ何をしているのかよく分かっていませんでした。それでもOmnitureが大好きで、とにかく一生懸命働き、問題が起きれば「どうにかして解決する」という気持ちだけで前に進み続けました。 毎日喧嘩ばっかりしていました。社内での喧嘩、本社との喧嘩、パートナーとの喧嘩。それでも最後には必ず形にしてきました。それは高度な分析力や卓越した経営判断があったからではなく、ただひたすら諦めず、やり抜いただけでした。 あの7年間、日本法人のカントリーマネージャーを務めることができたことは、私にとってかけがえのない経験でした。そしてOmniture Japanの歩みを共につくってくださったすべての社員、パートナー、お客様に、心から感謝しています。 実を言うと、20年経った今になって思うのは、「結局、本当に何をしているのか分かっている人なんて、実はいない」ということです。 だからこそ、一緒に働きたいと思える仲間を見つけ、自分が心から共感できるビジョンを見つけ、あとは愚直に努力を積み重ねる。それが結局、一番充実した人生につながるのだと思います。 最後に、本社で私たちを信じ、支え続けてくださったJosh James、Chris Harrington、Steve Wellen、Doug Grounds、Wade Sherman、Cathrine Wongをはじめ、多くの皆さんに心から感謝します。そして、Internationalチームを率いた頼れるリーダー Neil Weston、そして私の「戦友」とも言えるMarc Gagneにも、あらためてありがとう。 私たちはこれからもずっと、緑の血が流れるOmnitureファミリーです！

One of my favourite moments from Adobe Summit Sydney wasn't delivering a presentation. It was having a conversation. I had the privilege of hosting a fireside chat with Darren Boyle from RMIT University, exploring how one of Australia's leading universities is evolving from connected data to AI-powered journey orchestration. One statistic has stayed with me since. A prospective student journey can span three years, seven to eight channels, and more than fifty touchpoints. Just pause and think about that. It's easy to get caught up in conversations about AI, agents and the latest technology. But Darren's story reinforced something far more important. Transformation doesn't start with AI. It starts with understanding your customer. For RMIT, that journey has been one of: • Aligning data across the organisation. • Bringing Marketing, Digital and Recruitment teams together around a shared view of the customer. • Moving from campaign optimisation to journey optimisation. • And now using AI and agent orchestration to accelerate better decisions and more personalised experiences. One comment from Darren particularly resonated with me: "For the first time, our Marketing, Digital and Recruitment teams were using the same segmentation." To me, that's the real transformation. Technology enables it, but alignment across people, processes and data is what makes it possible. Today marks a new chapter in my journey at Adobe—I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been promoted to Principal AI Engineer. One thing I've learned over the years is that the most rewarding part of engineering isn't just building technology—it's building capabilities that others can build upon. As I step into this role, I'm excited to focus on solving bigger problems, enabling teams through reusable AI platforms and engineering excellence, and helping shape the future of Adobe AI. A heartfelt thank you to my mentors, leaders, teammates, and my family for believing in me, challenging me, and supporting me throughout this journey. The title is new. The best part of my job? It’s a tie between seeing Adobe customers succeed - thanks in part to the exceptional guidance and support from the rockstars on my team - and having the privilege of leading and learning from one of the best Customer Success organizations in the industry. Of course, they're connected. This week, I had the opportunity to spend time in our London office with our customer-facing teams. We shared what’s working, explored areas for growth, and discussed how we’re delivering a best-in-class, AI-driven customer experience across our EMEA customer base. I’m both humbled and proud to be part of such an incredible team, all united in one goal: creating customers for life. 🎉 10 years. A number that feels both surreal and deeply meaningful as I write this today. A decade ago, I walked into Adobe not quite knowing what lay ahead and what unfolded has been nothing short of extraordinary. What started as a career move became a journey of growth, purpose, and belonging. Over these 10 years, I've had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented, passionate, and driven people I've ever met. I've been challenged, stretched, and pushed beyond what I thought possible and every bit of it has made me better. The learning has been relentless in the best possible way. From the craft to the culture, Adobe has shaped not just how I work, but how I think. But what truly sets Adobe apart is its people and values. This organization has a soul. And somewhere along the way, without even realizing it, Adobe stopped being just a workplace — it became part of my family. The relationships I've built here, the milestones we've celebrated together, the late nights and big wins these are memories I'll carry forever.
