Matthew Cutter shared thisThis past weekend I participated in the 29029 Everesting challenge, a hiking event equivalent to the vertical elevation of Mount Everest, 29,029 feet, within 36 hours. This was going to be quite the physical endeavor, especially having to complete it in 36 hours! Having done some endurance events prior, I knew this would be hard, but didn’t know it was going to be that hard. Each 2.3 mile climb up the mountain presented its own unique challenges… Monotony, beating sun, elevation, sleep deprivation… all uncontrollable variables that had to be conquered 13 times. 300 other people participated in the event with me. Each pushing themselves to their own limits. Many of them had never even completed a 5k before! The path each person took was different.. some completed 8 summits on day 1, some 9, some hiked all night, some had muscle or stomach issues.. and those were only some of the aspects I was witness too. Each person carried their own internal and external battles. But many, like me, earned their RED HAT- the honor bestowed upon those that complete all 20,029 feet. In life, we all have our personal journeys to reach our own ‘Everest’. The path is never straight, as much as it may seem. Everyone has challenges and adversity we must overcome along the way. I’m proud of what I achieved (6 hours in the pain cave!), but I’m even more proud to see those around me, that also earned that RED HAT. This was not a race… It was community endurance challenge and the power of the collective group was simply indescribable. As the saying goes, “If you want go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” -African Proverb What an amazing event! I highly encourage those looking for a challenge to do a 29029! A mantra we used on the mountain, and that I will embrace for day-to-day life… Forward is a pace.

This is not just a personal milestone; it’s a collective journey for all of us who are passionate about this program and its legacy. First, we must acknowledge the legendary Coach who laid such a tremendous foundation for us—Dan Sheehan. His contributions have shaped one of the most successful coaching legacies in college lacrosse, and we stand on the shoulders of giants. Le Moyne sits on the land of the Onondaga, where this beautiful game originated, making it a very special place for us all. Our roots run deep here, and it is our responsibility to honor that history as we forge our path forward. My vision aligns with Jesuit values that emphasize developing the whole person—mind, body, and soul. Together, we will tap into our collective resources and experiences, serving Le Moyne College to the best of our abilities. I chose Le Moyne because this is home—not just for me, but for all of us who share a commitment to this community. Upstate New York is the heart of the Creator’s Game, and no one understands its history, passion, and purpose better than the people in this region. We’ve spent our lives surrounded by players who love and respect the game, embodying the values of hard work, teamwork, and the understanding that success is earned. Lacrosse is our greatest tool for developing better human beings. While winning championships is important, our focus will be on nurturing leaders, teammates, fathers, husbands, coaches, and individuals of character. The daily preparation, discipline, accountability, and commitment to one another will shape who we become long after the final whistle. When we consistently live by these principles, the victories will naturally follow. We’re looking for winners—not just players who want to win, but individuals who understand what true winning requires. Winners embrace sacrifice, choose discipline over comfort, and surround themselves with those who uplift them. They respect our school, represent their families with pride, and compete with relentless heart, humility, and hunger every single day. If you want to be part of something bigger than yourself, if you're eager to help build a championship culture from the inside out, then I want to hear from you. Together, we’re going to build something special. Together, we’re going to develop exceptional young men. And together, we’re going to win. Go Dolphins!

This backing from serious institutional investors is a genuine vote of confidence in the business we run and the businesses we fund. Matthew Cutter liked thisMatthew Cutter liked thisWhen I first came into this business, I thought we needed to keep up. Look the best. Be the shiniest. Have all the newest toys. If a competitor down the road had something impressive, my instinct was that we needed it too. I've come to believe that was wrong, and it took me years to unlearn it. What I've watched over time is that people, culture, and values matter more than any of the shiny stuff. They matter more than looking good on social media. The equipment and the optics get attention, but they're not what makes a therapist stay for a decade or a patient trust you with their recovery. That comes from something you can't buy and can't photograph. So we make decisions differently now. The question isn't how something will look from the outside or how it'll be perceived. It's whether it's actually the right thing for us as a company, internally, for our people. Sometimes the right internal decision is invisible to everyone outside the building, and that used to bother me. Now I take it as a sign we're focused on the correct thing. The shiny version of a company is easy to admire and easy to build. The real one is quieter and takes a lot longer. I'd rather have the second one.

Matthew Cutter liked thisMatthew Cutter liked thisAfter 9 incredible years at Appcues, I’ve made the decision not to return after maternity leave. It's hard to put into words what Appcues has meant to me. For nearly a decade, it was more than a job. It was a place where I grew professionally, built lifelong friendships, learned through challenges, celebrated wins, and had the privilege of working alongside some truly exceptional people. For years, when candidates asked me during interviews, "What keeps you here?" the answer always came easily. The people, the opportunity to grow, and the autonomy that came with a team that leads with trust. Getting to brag about our amazing support team and show off the latest goodies from product and eng. I wasn’t sure what would ever make me ready to move on. If you had asked ambitious 25-year-old me where I'd be a decade later, I certainly wouldn’t have said “stay-at-home mom". But then my daughter was born, and everything changed. Big thank you to John S., Jackson Noel, and Jonathan Kim for taking a chance on me back when we all fit into one room in Fenway. To Frida Ottosson for some seriously fun sales years. To Jess Haas for empowering me to take a big leap into something new. And to the countless teammates who made Appcues feel like home for nearly a decade. You know who you are. Ryan Barry - I'll be cheering you and the team on from the sidelines. I can't wait to see what you'll do next. PS - While I'm not looking for another full-time role, I will be available for select consulting opportunities. More on that soon.

Matthew Cutter liked thisMatthew Cutter liked thisLast week, we tried something new at Camp YJ: Rookie Camp. For the first time, children entering grades 2 through 7 spent a real day at camp, with many choosing to stay overnight. Rather than simply touring camp, they became part of it. They joined bunks, ate meals in the dining hall, swam, shot arrows in archery, and experienced camp alongside our campers. We created Rookie Camp to help prospective families experience YJ firsthand. What I didn't fully anticipate was the impact it would have on the campers already here. Our youngest campers, who had only recently arrived themselves, suddenly found someone looking up to them. They proudly gave tours, answered questions, invited new campers into games, and helped them feel like they belonged. It was a powerful reminder that leadership doesn't begin when you're the oldest. It begins the moment someone else is newer than you. The best camp communities create countless opportunities for children to grow into leaders, not through titles, but through kindness, confidence, and responsibility. Every camper has someone to look up to, and every camper eventually has the chance to become that person for someone else. Watching that unfold last week was one of those moments that reminds me why camp matters so much. Want to sign your kids for our next Rookie camp at YJ on Sunday Aug 2-Mon Aug 3? Matthew Cutter liked thisMatthew Cutter liked thisTurns out 13 climbs up a Utah mountain in 33 hours is a pretty good way to raise money for a good cause ⛰️ That's what our CEO Jason Mullins did this June, taking on enough vertical feet to match Mount Everest (that's 29,031 if you're counting), all in support of Junior Achievement Utah, part of Junior Achievement USA. JA teaches young people financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship, the same kind of groundwork we see small business owners build on every day. It's personal too: Forward Financing has an office in Utah, and this felt like a great way to say hello to the neighborhood. The whole Forward Financing team wanted in on the action (but maybe not the climb 😅). Together, with a company match, we raised $21,916 — $16,916 went to the Utah chapter, plus $5,000 Jason kicked in directly to JA of Canada. Best of all, last week our leadership team flew out to Salt Lake City to hand-deliver the check in person (and take what might be our most enthusiastic group photo yet). Congrats to Jason on the climb, and thank you to JA for the work you do giving young people the skills and confidence to build their futures ➡️ #LifeAtForward #JuniorAchievement #CommunityImpact #CompanyCulture

The Future of Wealth Management and Financial Advising Yesterday, Shawn Keane, CFP ® and I attended the 2025 CFA Society Annual Philadelphia Private Wealth Management conference, and it was an incredible opportunity. It allowed us to step back from the day to day and look at where our industry is headed. My biggest takeaways are: The Financial Advising Landscape is Changing Rapidly -Clients expectations are evolving -People want holistic planning advice not just investment advice -The firms that succeed will be those who adapt and embrace innovation AI is Becoming a Real Game Changer I had the chance to see how other firms are integrating AI into their own businesses. Whether it was streamlining back-office operations, enhancing the client experience, or improving portfolio analysis. AI is not here to replace advisors but empower us to deliver better service. The key was using AI to complement the human touch, not replace it. Networking and Continuing to Learn Matters Getting out of the office to connect with other professionals is essential. It is easy to get caught up in your own processes, but seeing what others are doing inspires new ideas. These ideas are what allow us at Smithbridge Asset Management to serve our clients better and provide solutions that truly fit their needs. The financial world does not stand still and neither should we. #WealthManagement #FinancialAdvisor #NetworkingMatters #AIinFinance #ClientExperience #FinancialPlanning #ProfessionalGrowth #InnovationInFinance
