Matthew Gilbert liked thisMatthew Gilbert liked thisRivian has expanded its manufacturing footprint in Normal, Illinois by over 2.5 million sq. ft. in preparation for R2 production, including a 1.2 million sq. ft. supplier park. Last week, I had the pleasure of joining Mayor Chris Koos, Town Council members and Department Heads, and our newest R2 suppliers for a celebratory dinner. Our supplier park has been critical to our speed and success as we prepare to deliver R2 to customers. By bringing our partners closer to the heart of our operations, we’re streamlining innovation and deepening our roots in a community that has been with us since day one. Mayor Koos said it best: "What's good for Normal is good for Rivian, and what's good for Rivian is good for Normal!" Excited for what’s ahead as we continue to grow together. A big thank you to Town of Normal, IL , Chris Koos, @ Kevin McCarthy, Nik Duffle, Pamela Reece Bobby Dean Parker, Michael Schwaeble , Jon Woodmore , Emmett Hassen , Felipe Freitas and everyone else who made this event possible!

Matthew Gilbert liked thisMatthew Gilbert liked thisLast week, I had the privilege of visiting two of the most transformative manufacturing sites in the U.S. mobility ecosystem — Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) and the adjacent Hyundai–LG Battery Manufacturing facility. Walking through HMGMA felt like stepping into the future of automotive manufacturing. This is Hyundai Motor Group’s first dedicated mass‑production EV plant in the United States, built on a 2,284‑acre campus near Savannah, Georgia. The scale is extraordinary — more than 16 million square feet of factory floor space, designed as a highly connected, AI‑optimized smart factory where order collection, procurement, logistics, and production flow seamlessly through data‑driven automation. Seeing the production lines for the Hyundai IONIQ 5, IONIQ 9, and Kia Sportage HEV - supported by advanced robotics and human‑centered automation was a powerful reminder of how quickly our industry is evolving. HMGMA is built to produce capacity of 500,000 EVs and hybrid vehicles annually across Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands. Right next door, the Hyundai–LG Energy Solution battery plant is producing battery cells as part of a multi‑billion‑dollar joint venture that will supply next‑generation EV batteries directly into the manufacturing ecosystem. This vertically integrated model — EV assembly + battery production on a single mega‑site — is redefining speed, efficiency, and sustainability in U.S. automotive manufacturing. What impressed me most wasn’t just the technology — it was the vision of HMG and the commitment of leadership and team members who proudly call themselves Meta Pros. The commitment to AI‑enabled robotic automation, connected ecosystems, workforce development partnerships, and community investment is setting a new benchmark for what modern manufacturing can be. Matthew Gilbert liked thisMatthew Gilbert liked thisCutting Lead Time in Half—Nascote’s Kaizen in Action On April 27–28, Nascote hosted a Business Process Kaizen (Makagami) as part of our MAFACT Training in the Path of Work initiative, focused on improving our Program Scheduling process. Led by Eric Yang with support from Alex Small, the team mapped the end-to-end process for managing customer releases (EDI) for Ford’s ILVS system—critical to driving schedules across Assembly, Paint, and Molding. By breaking down the current state using a swim-lane approach, the team identified key inefficiencies and opportunities to streamline control within Scheduling. Results: • Reduced process steps from 17 to 12 • Identified improvements targeting ~50% lead time reduction • Reduced the number of documents needed for the process from 14 to 9 A strong action plan is now in place to sustain and build on these gains—another step forward in Nascote’s commitment to World Class Manufacturing and continuous improvement.
