The CFTC is now classifying evaluation-based prop firms as Commodity Trading Advisors. $500K minimum segregated capital. Real compliance requirements. This changes the economics of the entire industry. Challenge-based firms running on thin margins with 90/10 splits and on-demand payouts will need to restructure or shut down. The survivors will be the ones already operating with proper infrastructure, risk management, and regulatory frameworks. For brokerages: this consolidation creates opportunity. As prop firms fold or merge, their traders need somewhere to go. Platforms with proper licensing, reliable execution, and real client protection become the obvious destination.
