Even when we did not have much, my parents set an example about what it meant to care for others. Our home phone would occasionally ring late into the night with a call from a desperate family going line by line through the phone book looking for help. Our small church's business line forwarded to our house. On the other end was a mother or father trying to find baby formula or diapers. I remember climbing into the car with my parents to head to the store to buy what we could with cash on hand and bring it to families who were so grateful that someone had answered. This afternoon, I'll fly home from an exclusive conference for venture capital managers held at one of California's nicest resorts. Because I travel often, I was upgraded to first class. The contrast isn't lost on me. Today, millions of Americans are scrambling to find food for themselves and their families as SNAP benefits remain unfunded. I am fortunate but know what it means to have very little. In our household, we're pausing all social dining out until food assistance in our country is restored. Instead, we're doubling down on community support to redirect those funds and more to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan and for families with pets, to Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit. If you, too, are in a position of comfort, please consider joining us. Every small act matters. No one should go hungry while we wait for politics to catch up with compassion.

(sort of...there day before only) 1 F1 race! 1 July 4th parade drive 1 World Cup friendly! 4 World Cup matches! Now, thankfully, heading home to get my personal batteries recharged and a barrage of boredom!

And don't worry, I went out last so I wouldn't hold anybody up.) But first, the trip. Five rounds through the Southwest of Ireland in June, and the wind and rain came along for every one of them. Waterville gave us nine holes of driving rain, then nine holes of wind that never quit. At one point it almost took my breath away. Old Head handed us one of maybe two or three calm days it sees all year. I made par on the 12th hole-the most difficult hole on planet earth Ballybunion had me playing the red tees just to survive the carries into the wind. Dook was reasonable, until I met greens so bad I honestly considered putting with a 7-iron. hate is too strong a word for any golf course but..........Lahinch I've hated for years. I still hate it. Thirty mile-per-hour wind and blind shots didn't help. Then there was the matter of walking Ballybunion and Lahinch on a new hip, with a doctor's note nobody honored. I wrote it all down in this week's blog. PS. It's Part I of a two-part Letter from Ireland. MaryAnn Wright reacted on thisMaryAnn Wright reacted on thisWe just marked a milestone in Central New York: pouring the first concrete for Micron’s New York fab, and we’re ahead of schedule. Less than six months ago, this was a forest. Concrete may seem ordinary, but there’s more to what’s going into the ground. We’re increasing our U.S. investment to $250 billion through 2035, where New York is a cornerstone, as well as Idaho and Virginia. This is alongside $3 billion for the U.S. supply chain, which includes $500 million in strategic financing support for GlobalWafers America. Central New York is reindustrializing and Micron is the anchor tenant, building careers and long-term opportunities. This includes investing in the community, in housing, transportation, childcare, education and workforce development. Because projects of this scale only succeed when the surrounding region grows around them. We’re already seeing impact taking shape. Most of the workforce on this site is from New York and we expect this project to create tens of thousands of jobs across the state. As I begin my term as president of the American Nuclear Society, I feel both grateful and energized by the privilege of serving this remarkable community alongside Craig Piercy This is a moment of tremendous promise for nuclear science and technology. Across the nation, there is growing recognition that nuclear energy and nuclear technologies are essential to addressing some of society’s most pressing challenges. At the same time, advances in medical isotopes, fusion, space nuclear systems, and advanced reactors are creating new possibilities for impact. But realizing that promise will require more than innovation alone. It will take a strong workforce, rigorous standards, trusted institutions, public confidence, and sustained collaboration across industry, government, academia, national laboratories, and emerging technology sectors. Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit

Animal Welfare
Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit (FAMD) cares for over 2500 animals each year. For over 20 years, we have saved 100% of all adoptable animals—no matter how long it takes to find their forever homes.
We completed Phase 1 of our new facility in 2018 and are raising the remaining funds to complete the project and move all operations into our new state-of-the-art adoption and education center by the end of 2023.
We would love to have your help to complete our project, adopt…Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit (FAMD) cares for over 2500 animals each year. For over 20 years, we have saved 100% of all adoptable animals—no matter how long it takes to find their forever homes.

Vertical Restraints Taking a cue from Tesla, Scout (from Volkswagen) plans to sell its trucks and SUVs directly to customers, bypassing dealers entirely in United States. While other electric newcomers such as Rivian Automotive and Lucid Motors have taken the same approach, Volkswagen dealers feel that because Scout is a Volkswagen Group company, it must sell cars through independent, franchised dealerships. Dealers feel: Volkswagen built their success on the backs of the dealer network, and now they’re putting knives in the backs of the same dealers that helped them grow in this country since the 1950s. Volkswagen thinks: selling directly gives the company more insights in the artificial-intelligence age, while creating a better experience for its customers. It wishes to be dramatically more efficient with every single car that it makes. Great article here on GM’s battery development activity. Very encouraging to hear that serious work is being done by serious people that might ultimately save domestic auto production. And with all the gloom-and-doom news over the loss of the EV tax credit, this was particularly encouraging: GM says its affordable, more sustainable LMR batteries will decisively outperform China’s best lithium iron phosphate (LFP) specimens — currently the world’s favored low-cost solution. The company’s new cells should deliver one-third more driving range than LFP, at virtually identical cost. … They’ll also save GM at least $6,000 per battery pack, versus today’s pricey high-nickel cells. That’s nearly enough, by itself, to offset the loss of those $7,500 credits and bring EVs closer toward elusive price parity with gasoline models.
