Stanford to Hebrew University: top 20 universities of US unicorn founders More than 3,00 founders of US-based unicorns hold a BA degree or equivalent from more than 600 schools around the world. Top 20 colleges account for a large share. Stanford University leads with 147 unicorn founders that attended it for undergraduate studies. Massachusetts Institute of Technology is #2 with 117.  Harvard University (86) and University of California, Berkeley (77) follow. A few things worth noting: Brigham Young University at #9 with 42 founders is a standout. It sits ahead of University of Michigan (#10), Carnegie Mellon University (#11), and The University of Texas at Austin (#12) — schools with significantly larger student bodies and (as some would say?) more brand recognition. The Ivies are well represented but unevenly. Harvard (#3), Cornell University (#5), Yale University (#6), Princeton University (#7-8), University of Pennsylvania (#13), Brown University (#16), and Columbia University (#17) all make the list — but the gap between Harvard's 86 and Columbia's 33 is massive. Three Israeli universities make the top 20 (of founders of US-based unicorns!): Tel Aviv University (#15, 36 founders) and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (#20, 30 founders). Technion - Israel Institute of Technology is #19 with 30 as well. Three schools from a country of 10 million people in a ranking US-based unicorns dominated by American universities. Public universities hold strong — Berkeley (#4), Michigan (#10), UT Austin (#12), University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (#14), and University of Washington (#18) all made it. Berkeley alone produced more founders than any Ivy except Harvard.
