After six years operating as two separate brands, the two co-ops are now Wedge Community Co-ops. The Wedge has long been viewed as a national name and leader in the co-op movement, and it represents a commitment to supporting a local food economy and support for innovators in the food world. Both Wedge locations will continue to offer the highest quality local and organic groceries, along with many of the unique items shoppers and owners have come to expect from the co-op. We recognize the importance of the individual neighborhoods and the vital role co-ops play in the community. Both Minneapolis-based stores will reflect their locations, identified locally as Wedge Lyndale and Wedge Linden Hills. This forward-looking change reflects a growth mindset and endless opportunities for the future.

Madeleine Hagar reacted on thisMadeleine Hagar reacted on this2021: I was lost. My career (and life) felt so chaotic. I'd quit my job to travel, cut short by covid. Started answering phones for a local home services company. Left that job to manage a restaurant opening. I had no idea how I would get back to corporate and back on the path I thought I wanted, not because it made me happy, but because it was the only path I thought meant success. Oh, and I was single and feeling like the partnership and family I wanted was so far out of reach that I should stop trying. 2026: I have the family I dreamed about, deep soul friendships, and a growing business that I'm proud of. I don't have a 5-year plan. I still don't know what next year looks like. I'm not lost anymore.

Alexa started her co-op career at the Seward Friendship store in 2015, and was most recently the Produce Manager at Eastside Food Co-op. She is an enthusiast for all things local, produce, and co-ops! Raised by a family of farmers, she wants us all to know not just where, but who our food comes from. Outside of the co-op you may see her biking around town looking for a perch to watch some city wildlife and soak in whatever weather comes our way! Please join us in giving her a warm welcome.

Madeleine Hagar liked thisMadeleine Hagar liked thisWhen I was 25, I left a job I genuinely loved. It had been my dream job, but I was burning out and didn't know how to ask for what I needed. Ten days of PTO a year, no remote options, zero flexibility. I was suffocating and had no idea how to say it. So I left. I camped across the upper peninsula, spent three months in Oaxaca, then eventually landed back in corporate. Here's what I know now: I was valuable. I also couldn't have told you at the time what would have made me stay. It might have been as simple as some flex hours and more PTO. But no one asked the question. Your best people won't always come to you. They'll just quietly start looking for an exit. If you're an owner or manager, start these conversations with your top people now, even if they seem content. "What would make you stay?" I needed someone to ask. Your best people do too.

Madeleine Hagar reacted on thisMadeleine Hagar reacted on thisThis past weekend, I had the honor of receiving my diploma from University of St. Thomas - Opus College of Business, officially completing my MBA! This milestone feels especially meaningful because of the journey behind it; three years of balancing full-time work with night classes, and at times, not being sure I would make it to the finish line. In the middle of my second-to-last semester, my sister passed away unexpectedly. In the weeks and months that followed, I didn’t think I could finish the program. I only made it through because of the incredible grace and flexibility my professors and classmates extended, working with me and supporting me in ways I’ll never forget. I’m deeply grateful for that kindness. At graduation, a few raucous siblings in the crowd proudly shouted, “THAT’S MY SISTER!” as names were called and graduates walked across the stage. I know Ellie would have eagerly joined the trend and rushed to find me after, asking if I heard her. While she wasn’t physically there, she was present in other ways, and I carried her with me across that stage. This experience has challenged me, stretched me, and ultimately strengthened me in ways I couldn’t have anticipated. I’m proud to have finished and incredibly thankful for everyone who helped me get here. Cheers to what’s ahead!
