CMDA is an applied integrated science degree. It combines mathematics, statistics, and computer science to build a foundation for data science techniques. Data scientists “have better statistics skills than any software engineer, and better software engineering skills than any statistician.” This degree prepares us for that role. We’re not just learning to be analysts, we’re scientists.

  • The Science of Data

    - Present

I started a resource for aspiring data professionals and people who want to understand more about the world of data. This project is 100% my own idea and creation, and I designed and built the website from scratch. The articles so far are my own, but I would love to have others write for me! I created this to share my passion for data science and hopefully learn more along the way.

  • High Performance Parallel Computing Project w/ Monte Carlo Simulation

    -

Using Python, C, OpenMP, and OpenMPI, I implemented a Monte Carlo simulation algorithm that modeled the change in energy of a charged system. The initial prototype model in Python had a projected runtime of over a month. Over the course of a few months I refactored the code using C and the OpenMP parallel computing libraries to bring the runtime down to just over an hour and a half. This was a 99.86% improvement over the original code in Python. This was completed using HPC clusters in Virginia…

  • COVID-19 Social Data Project - Socially Determined

    -

Socially Determined sponsored a data project competition that focused on analyzing social determinants to predict COVID-19 outcomes. This was still at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, and our analysis focused on building SIR models of case numbers in Maryland. We were able to model the number of cases in each county in Maryland using the data from Socially Determined and present our findings to a panel of judges.

  • Machine Learning Lecture Project

    -

Together with 3 of my classmates, our job was to create and present a full lecture on a difficult machine learning topic. Our topic was Tree Boosting Using Gradient Boost. We had to research, compile the content, and write the presentation using RMarkdown. Included was an overview of the method in plain language, an overview of the underlying theory, and implementation and interpretation of R code and output. We received an A+ for this project and it was deemed by fellow classmates the best…

  • Website Redesign - Hickory Bible Tabernacle

    -

This project (once completed) will be a full overhaul of the HBT website. Content management will be moved to Craft 3 CMS (previously through FTP upload and Pulse). The site is being redesigned to optimize use for church members, featuring announcements, event pages, latest services, and much more. The UX focus will be on our mobile users and users streaming live or archives services.
