As Brian H. begins this new chapter, we asked him a few questions to help our community get to know him better. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠? I’ve been fishing and boating my entire life. I was very fortunate to have a grandpa who enjoyed taking me fishing from the time I could sit in a boat and hold a fishing rod. Some of my fondest memories are fishing from southern Minnesota to the Canadian border with him. Time on the water and fishing with friends and family has been a cornerstone of my life and continues to be a major part of how my family spends time together. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐮𝐧𝐝? I’ve always recognized Lund as the most trusted and respected brand in boats and to have the opportunity to lead such a strong and dedicated team of people is amazing. For almost 80 years, Lund has led the way in quality, innovation and a deep connection to our customers. Our employees, dealer partners and pro staff have tremendous passion for continuing this heritage of excellence. It’s very fun to be part of that! Early in my career, I had a boss who encouraged me to find out what people are struggling with and to help them find solutions to improve their struggles. It might be helping to reduce scrap on a machining center, improving a process to remove wasted time or making our company easier to do business with. I’ve been able to apply that mindset on the shop floor with employees, in the dealership, with customers and even in my personal life.

Now at the University of St. Thomas, she combines real-world engineering insight with a passion for student development, while staying actively engaged in the Society of Women Engineers and community initiatives like Lawns to Legumes. Dr. Patrin first came to St. Thomas as a student! She loved the campus after her first visit. She wanted to come back professionally as her values align with the values of the university. When I started the original guys that started in the 60's and 70's were still here and I learned a lot from them. Now I'm one of the old guys around the shop but no where near the most senior.

LMU Enactus Energy Audit

This project is essentially the environmentally sustainable front-runner of LMU Enactus. The goal of this project is to promote and maintain a high level of energy efficiency among local businesses surrounding LMU. This takes place in three stages:
1) After initial contact, the business's previous 12 months of utility bills are recorded and analyzed in order to determine the current status of efficiency when compared to other businesses.
2) The team then performs an onsite…This project is essentially the environmentally sustainable front-runner of LMU Enactus. The goal of this project is to promote and maintain a high level of energy efficiency among local businesses surrounding LMU. This takes place in three stages:
1) After initial contact, the business's previous 12 months of utility bills are recorded and analyzed in order to determine the current status of efficiency when compared to other businesses.
2) The team then performs an onsite walk-through of the building itself, recording and analyzing important information related to energy consumption. This includes current employee opening/closing checklists, equipment and machinery, and any outlying procedures or hardware that need adjusting.
3) After the walk-through stage is completed, the team then meets with the business owner and discusses short and long term suggestions that will improve efficiency while lowering costs. A contingency plan is also put in place to monitor the improvements made.
The project has been in motion for about 4 months, and has been seen through at 3 branches of First Century Bank close to LMU. Through the audit, savings of up to 11.25% have been seen when calculating the cost of utilities after the changes were implemented by the business.
Future plans include:
-starting another 3 business cycle once the first cycle is totally completed
-improving the energy efficiency on campus at Lincoln Memorial University
-promoting energy efficiency among students in residence halls and apartment complexesOther creators -
