Like many reliability investments, the value of observability often isn’t appreciated until things go wrong, so figuring out who gets the bill can be difficult. Mapping usage to specific teams is helpful, but the ever-increasing surface area of observability capabilities across tracing, logs, metrics, error tracking, real user monitoring, and more, complicates the mapping. Getting consistent terminology and buy-in on a process can take time. How do you navigate a multifaceted problem like this?…

"Everything is so siloed!" -Every Case Manager Ever In almost every conversation I have with nonprofits, reentry programs, workforce orgs, and case management teams, this comes up. Siloed information, siloed resources, fragmented data, teams that can't see what the other teams are doing. And when we dig into why this keeps happening, it always comes back to the same thing: The tools just weren't built for this work. Most organizations we work with don't need a CRM just to keep track of simple data and build simple reports. They're working with real people with complex needs, who are navigating difficult roadmaps. They're serving people with barriers that most don't understand (barriers that make "simple" tasks nearly impossible). A person reentering society after incarceration doesn't just need a job. They need housing, mental health support, substance use treatment, family reunification, legal assistance, benefits navigation, and someone checking in when they go quiet for 3 days. Standard CRMs and case management systems simply don't account for this. They're good at storing data. They're good at generating reports. But that's where it ends. They don't connect the dots between programs. They don't flag when someone is disengaging before it's too late. They don't automate the wraparound coordination that actually keeps people from falling through the cracks. Untapped Solutions does. We built this because we know what it's like when the tools fail the people who need them most. Untapped makes case managers far more effective. And it makes the people they're serving twice as likely to succeed. You are allowed to tell your board: we are not ready to implement this yet. The pressure on nonprofit leaders to adopt AI right now is enormous. Funders ask about your AI strategy. Peer organizations announce pilots. Conference panels frame every month of hesitation as falling behind. We work with mission-driven teams every week, and we want to say this plainly: the pace at which thoughtful organizations actually move is slower than the pace the discourse insists on. That is not a failure. That is stewardship. Some sentences you are allowed to say out loud: >> We need more time before we commit to this tool. >> I want to understand this before we train our staff. >> We are not implementing anything we cannot explain to our community. >> I need to see the ethics documentation before we move forward. >> We are pausing this pilot until we have clearer outcomes. >> Our organization is still learning, and that is enough for now. Clarity and trust have to come before tools. A pilot you cannot explain to the people you serve is not a pilot. It is a liability dressed up as innovation. If a vendor will not give you time to understand what you are buying, that is information about the vendor. If a funder's timeline assumes you will deploy something you do not yet trust, that is a conversation worth having, not a deadline worth meeting. Slow is not behind. Slow is how mission-driven work has always protected the people at the center of it.
