Kim Hyde, PHR liked thisKim Hyde, PHR liked thisThe thing I love most about leadership? Helping someone grow and develop. And promoting them when they do. But a promotion also impacts the team around them. So I never take that decision lightly. It takes more than one big win or a perfect quarter for me to promote someone. It’s about patterns over time. Here are 10 things I often look for: 1/ They push back respectfully ↳ They challenge your thinking, but always with a better option ready. 2/ They have a consistent track record ↳ Their work doesn't change when you're not watching. 3/ They take ownership without being asked ↳ They closed the loop on something that wasn't their job. 4/ They stay calm under pressure ↳ Their team stays calm too. 5/ They make good calls in gray areas ↳ They can walk you through their reasoning, even when the answer wasn't obvious. 6/ They're respected by their peers ↳ People pull them into conversations they weren't invited to. 7/ They ask for feedback and use it ↳ You gave them a note three weeks ago. You can already see it. 8/ They manage up well ↳ They flag issues before they become your problem. 9/ They own their mistakes ↳ They bring the problem and a plan at the same time. 10/ They raise the bar around them ↳ The people around them are getting better too. A strong quarter might catch my eye. But these patterns are what earn my trust. I want to know that the people I promote are building the culture my team deserves. Every leader looks for something different. This is just what I’ve found matters most on my team. It's funny, the people who show up this way often don’t even realize how much it’s noticed. But I promise you it is. Every time. ♻️ If this resonates, repost for your network. 📌 Follow Amy Gibson for more leadership insights.

Kim Hyde, PHR reacted on thisKim Hyde, PHR reacted on thisI just posted about the Marketing Summit that took place last week. One thing I left out was this...A super secret award for me. As they each started talking about the person this award was going to, I had this dread it was me haha. I feel like I am just doing my job as their HR partner. In my over 20 years of being in HR, THIS moment was one of my most humbling experiences. To hear the great things these talented, hard-working leaders said about ME truly brings tears to my eyes. So THANK YOU for recognizing the work I do that supports you and your teams. I appreciate you all - Tony Ambroza, Greg Nelson, Lee Riser, MBA, Robert Springer, Kate Crow, Maura Rioux, Brad Mamo Greg Siviy, Lauren Cleary and Luke Coltrin ❤️

Kim Hyde, PHR liked thisKim Hyde, PHR liked thisI intended to post about this sooner, but 20 years ago this May, I turned 16 on my own in Indianapolis at the 2006 International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), after earning a spot to represent the State of Michigan with around half a dozen other high school students from Michigan. I earned my spot by winning First Prize in Biochemistry and one of the Grand Prize awards overall at the 2006 Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit (SEFMD), as well as First Prize at the 2006 Michigan State Science Fair (the State, not the University) and top awards from other prestigious schools and organizations, such as Yale, for my project: A Comparative Analysis of Quantum Dot Nanotechnology and Standard Fluorophores. Even at 14 years of age, when I first wrote a paper on advanced microscopy with the hope to do my school science fair on the subject a year later, I developed and invested significant time and interest into learning more about practical applications of microscopy. I eventually had the good fortune to be introduced by my sister in pre-med to Dr. Stephen Lentz at the University of Michigan, who worked in diabetes research and who, in the process, used a confocal laser scanning microscope, one that I was keen to work with and around which I wanted to build a project. Dr. Lentz graciously agreed to let me work with him in his lab, on seeing the research I did and my interest in the subject. That opportunity ultimately turned into a project that involved nearly a year of work, with my mom being kind enough to drive me to Ann Arbor from Dearborn, often twice a week, where I would work with Dr. Lentz's supervision, often until past midnight before needing to head home and be ready for zero hour at school (6 AM, if I recall - anyway, it was early!). The experience and what my mom and Dr. Lentz did for me changed my life, and I couldn't help but remember this 20 years later, as the hard work it took to achieve what I achieved (with the help of others, of course), largely defined and developed the work ethic I would need later in life, e.g., to work 4 jobs simultaneously in undergrad while finishing at the top of my class, and later getting into law school at Michigan, where I did journal, made it to the Moot Court Quarterfinals, and acted as the Chair of the Law Student Section of the State Bar of Michigan, among other endeavors. This all, of course, further shaped my eventual career practicing law, which is both deeply demanding and rewarding. The lessons I've learned along the way, most of which are perhaps cliches, but still true, and which started with my science project: 1) believe in yourself because you can achieve great things with hard work; 2) in most cases, you can't or just usually don't achieve great things without help from others, and the best thing you can do later in life is the same thing for others, in return (i.e., help others achieve their goals); and 3) remember and celebrate your past, because it's where you build the habits and work ethic you have in the present, which in turn dictates your future.

Kim Hyde, PHR liked thisKim Hyde, PHR liked thisA couple of weeks ago, I had the honor of serving as a panelist on the STEM Workforce Development panel at the Joint NSF HBCU-UP/INCLUDES/LSAMP/NRT/S-STEM Conference in Montgomery, Alabama, representing RealTruck, Inc. We had some great discussions around how students can transition from university into the STEM industry—covering career pathways, skill-building, and what to expect stepping into professional roles. What stood out most was the level of engagement from students—thoughtful questions, real curiosity, and a strong drive to succeed. I also had the chance to attend several oral and poster sessions, and it was impressive to see the depth of research and innovation being presented. Grateful for the opportunity to represent RealTruck, contribute to the conversation, and connect with the next generation of STEM professionals. #STEM #WorkforceDevelopment #RealTruck #HBCU #LSAMP #STEMCareers

Kim Hyde, PHR liked thisKim Hyde, PHR liked thisA full roster on paper doesn't mean you have full coverage on the floor. Most manufacturing plants track absence rates monthly. But production runs shift by shift. By the time a monthly summary surfaces a pattern, weeks of disruption have already happened, overtime spikes, missed targets, supervisors scrambling before first shift starts. The plants staying ahead of coverage problems are the ones tracking the right leading indicators at the shift level. The signals that actually matter: short-notice callouts, skill gaps at critical stations, and absences concentrated on specific days or roles. These patterns predict breakdowns before they happen. And the cost of missing them adds up fast, not because people are absent, but because coverage failures compound. When you can see instability before it hits the floor, you stop reacting and start planning.
