Justin Stone, CPA liked thisJustin Stone, CPA liked thisAfter the 2008 financial crisis, many of us were in the trenches rebuilding the state-based insurance regulatory system. We strengthened capital standards, improved coordination, and made the system more resilient. That work mattered. As a former Insurance Commissioner for Connecticut, I care deeply about protecting what we built. When risks emerge that could undermine that progress and harm policyholders, we must all be vigilant. One risk that deserves serious regulatory attention is the rapid growth of #reinsurance activity in the Cayman Islands. The concern is straightforward: when U.S. policyholder obligations are ceded to offshore reinsurers operating outside the reach of state regulators, transparency breaks down and capital adequacy becomes difficult to verify. That is a risk we cannot afford to wave off. We've seen what happens when regulators miss the early signals. The policyholders who pay the price are the ones who can least afford it. The goal isn't to impede innovation — it's to make sure oversight keeps pace with it. It’s been a wild journey with tons of ups and downs, but I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished. I’ll never forget the tiny office with the fancy address (Empire State building) we didn’t pay for and we couldn’t fit in (the photo attached). I can’t thank our team enough for going above and beyond for our clients for years & our clients for putting their businesses in our hands. Feels weird to sell your baby, but I know it’s in great hands with $ONAR. This isn’t the end, this is the start of the next chapter for JUICE now being a public company. What a ride.

Welcome to Day 2 of "Former auditor says" For anyone who doesn’t know Rivet – our cofounder Kyle Christenson spent six years at the IRS's San Jose office as an auditor, working with individuals and companies around the Bay Area Day 2 of sharing some quotes from around the office... “One of the biggest red flags is when your M-1, M-2, and retained earnings don’t reconcile. People obsess over page one of the return, but auditors start with the balance sheet." "For C corps, retained earnings that grow every year with no distributions is another flag. A sloppy balance sheet attracts audits faster than almost any questionable expense.”"
